I find Judi Dench amazing - 81 and with very little sight but still playing challenging and very heavy duty parts brilliantly. I liked the way the other actors were very unobtrusively helping her on and off stage.

Rory Kinnear needs to do Macbeth for one of those live screenings or the filmed Globe theatre events. They were both fantastic but then again I'd watch him presenting a weather forecast
On the whole I thought it was pretty good, I got the giggles during the Midsummer nights dream bit when Al Murray stood next to Judy Dench - he looked like a giant!
The Othello ballet was breathtaking.

Yes I saw CT in Much Ado but agree with LIZS - as I do on the lack of clear objectives behind the programme.

I'd love to see Anne-Marie Duff live. I've always admired her.

Yes we saw the Much Ado with CT and DT but one play does not a Shakespearean actor make. There are plenty of others with stronger credentials. Neither are presenters and while DT could just about get away with it (and has long term associations with RSC) she is simply better playing a character role than herself. I found the evening a bit random - was it a celebration of his work in its variety, an opportunity to promote it to a wider audience or just a lot of appreciation within the arts world?

You know, Catherine Tate has actually performed in Shakespeare on the stage before. She played Beatrice to David Tennant's Benedick in 'Much Ado About Nothing' and I think they got good reviews at the time. So it's quite appropriate for her to be there.

Saw it at the cinema an enjoyed much of it. I agree the presentation was cringeworthy, much as I like David Tennant. Rory Kinnear and Ian McKellan excellent. Did anyone else find Brush Up Your Shakespeare bordering on offensive or have I just got over-sensitive? Othello dance was fab (as was the Othello dancer!).

And Roger Allam's Lear was fantastic. Has he ever done the full play? I'd love to see him in it.

The acting bits mainly excellent, less interested in the others.
Highlights were McKellen doing Mire and the brilliant Macbeh extract. AM Duff and Rory Kinnear should really do the whole thing somewhere. C Tate beyond awful. Why was she doing it? A pathetic attempt to 'popularise'?

The Macbeth was fantasist.

My dds bought me tickets to see it at the globe for Mother's Day a few years ago. I must admit the thought of standing for 3 hours did not appeal too much.
It was actually absolutely amazing and seemed to last half that time.
