I'm ashamed to say I only watched season 1 of this series last week, and despite some dodgy Brummie accents I really have enjoyed it. Cillian Murphy isn't exactly hard to look at though it he Wink

Season 2 starts tonight, 9pm BBC2 and is apparently set 2 years later. I was hoping for a Tommy/Grace happy ending but I don't think I'm getting it Sad

Useless peaky fact for the day. May is Tom hardys real life other half.

Anyway, thoughts....

Grace wasn't pregnant when she left originally but will almost certainly be up duffed now.
The Charlie Chaplin stuff is based on fact, he was believed to be part gypsy.
I'm now adamant that Michael is a plant, don't trust him one bit and I'll be stunned if he is polls son and the realisation that she's been set up i think will cause poll to take some revenge.
Felt sorry for Arthur this week, looks like he's taking stock and repenting a bit.
Tom hardy gave a blinding performance at the start. I love that man so much.

Can't believe 6 weeks have gone so quickly. I eagerly await next Thursday.

So was wrong, she was not pregnant when she went off.

After last episode think I am starting not to like Grace - why does she have to be so self righteous?
and surprisingly am starting to like May - she knows what she wants and is going for it despite what it might cost her. Also, she does seem concerned about taking care of him - that's a change for him!

How did Tommy know they were staying at the Ritz?

Because Grace wrote to him.

I have just found this thread again! Some of the violence has really beenvery graphic this series . And I'm no wimp.

Starting now...

I think you might be on to something with regards Michael. There's deffo something a bit off about him. He's taken to the über-violence extremely well!

I think Paul Anderson, who plays Arthur is outstanding. I'm just not sure about Arthur's story-arc. He's a total liability. Why would they have him down in London on his own? I also don't think the way they portrayed him in the first series is the same as he is now.

Who has Grace married? He's American isn't he? Is he an army man? How did Tommy know they were staying at the Ritz?

Sisters, I think she went off preggers.

Not enjoying it as much this season - think too much gratuitous violence. know it's supposed to be a rough world they inhabit but think the balance is wrong.

Don't think I like May either.

I think the portrayal of Arthur is spot on at this point. He was a violent man before and it has to be stressed that the levels he's reached are way beyond his 'normal' levels of violence now. He's lost control and that's being perfectly illustrated, it is graphic but it's meant to be shocking that he could descend into that.

Other thoughts from this week.... is Michael a plant? I have my doubts if he is Michael Shelby. Could they have a spy in the camp?

I agree the Tom hardy scene was outstanding. So funny as well.

The bit where Tommy was Talking about shipping whiskey to the USA had me shouting "call nuckyThompson" at the tv Grin

And grace, lovely grace. The horse is called 'graces secret'. Was Tommy her secret or did she have another? Did she go off to new York pregnant I wonder?

I am still really enjoying it but am starting to find Arthur's manic bouts of extreme violence a bit gratuitous.

The exchange between Tom Hardy and the italian guy in last night's episode was absolutely hilarious. Tom Hardy really is mesmerising isn't he? I couldn't take my eyes off him. Exactly the right measures of comical and menace.

So who do people think Tommy is meant to kill?

pill pill pill!
Come back!
I need to know if it's your friend beating up Tommy in the churchyard?

I also didn't watch the prison scene.
It was a particularly brutal episode this week.

I thought your friend might be the dead boxing boys mother pill???

I thought the throat cutting scene was far too graphic and unnecessary (and upsetting). Maybe it didn't help with all the recent beheadings. Didn't really need to see that.

Another blinding performance this week from the actor who plays Arthur and another violent week in general. Had to look away at the prison scene.

Looks like Michael is enjoying himself with his cousins though. I have a horrible feeling poor pol is going to lose him again before the end of this season Sad

I think that the fella who plays Arthur is astounding. I mean, how is it right that I feel pity for someone who just beat a lad with his bare fists?

Tommy was quite harsh on Arthur last night I thought. I guess he was going for the tough love approach.

Thanks for the link, Sisters.

I loved that Tommy had pissed off Campbell by disappearing out of the hospital and writing directly to Churchill. A lot of references to soldiers and sticking together. How the war has brutalised this generation. Tommy was given a medal but what did it do to him, to Arthur.

Helen McCrory was brilliant again last night, really did feel for her. And yes, Tom Hardy, oh yes! Though I'm sure he was doing Bane's voice Grin

Anyone interested in the history of this show and the real life peaky blinders, The Garrison pub was sold earlier this year, nice little article about it here

No me either sisters. I thought most of the performances last night were mesmorising - starting to find Sam Neil a bit hammy with his pantomime obsession with Tommy.

Tom Hardy though. I can't not watch him.

Made me smile they took the whisky from Finn but let him take the coke.
Can't see this ending well for Arthur.

Yeah, I wondered how hard they were looking out for her too! But I got the impression she wasn't that sorry to be burying Freddie - she said she was 'free'. I don't feel sorry for her, because I feel like she may well be the strongest out of the lot of them IYSWIM.

quirkychick · 05/10/2014 14:58

Yy because she was attacked and will always be a Shelby. What happened to Tommy's men who were watching her?

Very exciting ending,.can't wait for the next installment!

I think Ada was putting on a front for the benefit of her family TBH, she wanted to appear strong and independent and didn't want to be pulled back into the family.
I felt sorry for her attack though.

Are you feeling sorry for Ada because of how she was attacked? Because she didn't seem too bothered about the death of Freddie did she?

I am so in love with all of the mad Shelby brothers. The acting/writing must be incredible for three entirely crooked, violent and fucked up men to be so appealing.

I also think Esme is a great addition.

Ooh, loving this, I watched it on catchup last night and need to talk about it. So excited this is back I am a great fan of Cillian Murphy's charismatic acting Wink.

SistersofPercy-great name btw- I think you're right about Campbell and Thomas... there's more to that final scene from Season 1.

Poor Ada and poor Tommy too. Who is the real villain, Campbell or Tommy?

PillForgettingIdiot · 04/10/2014 15:41

I don't know yet! She's been purposefully secretive about it!

All i know is she's got a speaking role, a number of scenes with Cillian and I'm going to have to watch to find out. She's a pain in the arse really, isn't she?
