I couldn't bring myself to throw away meds I don't need anymore, like tabs for nausea. Might be useful in an apocalypse...

I assumed it was a one off drama-documentary,but it'd be great to have more.

I have been making sure my doomsday prepper oil lamps are functioning well, and feeding the dog and cat good protein Wink.

Oh my god how scary for you! I have been making lists for things to have in my doom cupboard. I even looked at powdered milk in tesco!

Is it a one off prog?

I watched it last night and it freaked the fuck out of me, especially because about 85 mins in, just after the sister of the guy in hospital let out a blood curdling " nooooooooooooooo" scream, my tv suddenly turned itself off and I was plunged into pitch black darkness on my own...in blackout! I swear my heartbeat didn't return to normal until about 2am!

I'm watching it now on 4/7 and am freaked out a bit! I am looking at all the stuff that needs power. My gas fire uses a remote! How could I turn that on??

Adds to shopping list, candles, matches, wind up torch, radio. Foil blankets. What else?

You lot are having an effect on me. I was stuck on the train to London yesterday and eyeing up the blackberries and so on as potential food, and then I was checking out my fellow passengers for their BBQ potential. They were a bit slim so I reckoned they would only really be good for stock TBH.

Our 330 gallon one is an old orange juice container
and then we have 5 x 50 gallon linked by siphon by the greenhouse
the big butt (as DH calls it) came from here
shop.smithsofthedean.co.uk/recycled-1520-litre--330-gallon-water-tank-266-p.asp
and then we have a couple of extra buts dotted around ....

As a result of this thread, I've done a mahoosive extra shop of tinned goods, ordered wind up torches and candles from Amazon and cleared space in the garage to accomodate it all.

MrsWembley, I do. My dad was an electrical engineer. Grin

I have a big BBQ, a wind up radio, an extensive Duke of Edinburgh kit, an open fire in the living room, a river across the field at the back of us, and I am good at killing pheasants with the car. We should be fine. Don't even need a generator, not sure what we would use it for if it came to that. I would not enjoy digging out and using an ersatz earth toilet though. Have done that before and it is minging. I will probably just hold on until Armageddon has passed. Grin

Do you not think that a flat or council house would actually be less of a target than a nice country house? As a general rule, the poor don't take from the poor and there is usually a greater sense of community in a sink estate than any country village

I don't agree, I think you're a lot more likely to be mugged or burgled on a sink estate.

Talkin I'm glad for the sake of New York. Would be nice to believe it would be the same here. Let's hope we never find out :o

Beyond you think the way I think :o I'm petrified because when we changed our heating system we lost our cold tank. Even at the time I was thinking about the OFR and the water tank seemed necessary... So I may have instant hot water but come the apocalypse I'll have to 'walk to the river' - DH's answer for everything, even though it would be a 2 mile walk past the zombies and water is very heavy to carry by hand Hmm

Watched it now, it was good as a worst case scenario type of thing, obviously I hope if it actually happened it would go a lot better.

For the record, I have no provisions whatsoever.... lies

Tyring to weigh up now whether I would stay put or walk (same town) to my mums. She has a bigger house so more at risk of burgulars, but semi detached so less fire risk than my mid terrace. I'm right on the edge of the town, can hear cows lol, whereas she is not far from the centre, both with their own advantages and disadvantages... Think me and DH might have to write a plan Grin

Funnyrunner
Please read what I was saying about New York.
Law and order did NOT break down.
Communities that had never pulled together before (NYC never had the War) did so in the most amazing way.
I used a Facebook page to find a complete stranger in my Dad's building to check he was OK.
Hoodies with head torches used them to help people across the road, not to mug them.

The power was off fully for a week and intermittently for six weeks.

The aftermath - rotting food, damaged buildings, loss of earnings etc etc took many, many months to sort.
