watching now, I don't get why Luther has been lumped in with these, with lung disease and something else...I can' imagine raising 3 ting kids has been easy with all that going on.
Was it really appropriate to have Liam in with that old woman, he didn't know where to look, she will have picked up on that and especially with him being a man.
I think the quiet man is being portrayed alright but thats it.
I think for Kelly the biggest issue is childcare, 5am? so obvs someone else is getting her kids ready for school.

I don't think most working people are smug and condescending either Hmm

I have deliberately not watched this programme given that there is an obvious bias to it. These people won't be representative of non working as a whole but you'd be forgiven for believing they were.

I did think they gave Kelly a hard time - as a single mum, why wasn't she allowed to want to be with her kids some of the time?

Just caught up on I player. What it did highlight is that in some jobs you have to work absurd hours to make ends meet. Both the cleaning lady and the carer admitted in a roundabout way it was detrimental to family life. Then nick and Margaret were saying Kelly used child care as an excuse not to work. I highly doubt there are cm available at 5am!

I think this programme and last weeks Budget Britiain food programme were both used as messages to politicians. The people in e benefit programme have been very carefully picked for the show......the uni grad who won't take a lower paid job, the person on disability benefit who honestly has proper health problems, the dad who really wants to work but nobody will give him a break and the mum who has lots her self confidence and doesn't believe in herself.

The BBC aren't very subtle!!
I think Kelly needed a real boost from the cleaning boss, who was a real cow instead. I really think Kelly would have been better suited to the carer lady and Liam the cleaning jobs.

Makes for interesting viewing though.... I'd o like a good old social dispute Grin

I had to turn it off in the end. The cleaning woman paid herself £1300 a month. Ok, I missed if she had kids/rent etc but if she did she is also reliant on benefits as she'd need CTC and possibly WTC and Housing benefit on that wage.
nd I'd not waant Liam as a Carer anywhere near my child when she is an adult (she needs 24 hour care). Blimey.

What a load of patronising bollox

The cleaning woman did have an attitude of I am better than anyone else about her. I had forgotten it was her who said about the chicken.

I don't think Liam will do very well as most people would be able to see the bigger picture when not wanting to get up for work. If he can't do this for people who actually rely on his help then he isn't going to be very reliable in a job that comes with a normal level of responsibility.

Stevie was selling the carer job as something anyone can do and I just don't think that is true. Liam should take a job but he should not be responsible for other people's care.

The cleaning woman thinks chicken breasts are better than a whole chicken and her daughters face was heartbreaking.

Am I the only person who didn't get why Chirs's partner wasn't looking for a job?

But he didn't actually say sorry because he felt it he said it because she told him it would be nice to hear Angry .

I'm also sure there are many people who would like to work a lovely 3 hours a day but then they realise that they are living in the real world and 3 hours is not enough.

That cleaning business woman was awful, so negative. She should have been praising and encouraging her - she wanted her to fail.

I just choked on my drink, did I hear that right? Liam is now a carer?

Oh, I so agree Tattoo.

I am a huge supporter of the benefits system. I can't imagine living somewhere where people don't have a safety net. But it can't be seen as a lifestyle choice.

I want to throw something at him. Hard. What a complete and utter wank stain. I didn't believe a word of his sorry.

Yes, that guy Liam is highly annoying. He is a man child. He needs a reality check but it's probably too late now. He should be sent off to some sort of boot camp. Oh, and sell his expensive Apple computers so he can get his teeth fixed. He deserves that bitchy comment.

I do not like the woman who runs the cleaning company, she's unbelievably judgemental and seemed really miffed when it was her employee who made the bed wrong, not the mother who's working with her (Kelly I think, I'm rubbish with names)

I havent read the whole thread & i am just about finished watching the programme.

I have been on unemployment benefits for 6 years or so however i also work part time(under 10 hours a week) i have tried & tried & i am
Still trying to find a better job with more hours but most companies are all giving shitty hours.

If u walked into my house u probably would wonder how i afford my things. I have a flat screen tv, a laptop, a pc & an iphone. The only thing that was new was my tv & it was the cheapest in the shop. I got the computers from my BIL as he makes computers & my phone 2nd hand. I dont live the life of luxury.

The BBC should have followed someone like me. But then that wouldnt make good tv.

I know the programme was a Daily Mail's reader wet dream. I get it. I suspect these people aren't representative of unemployed welfare claimant's. But my God my blood was boiling as I watched this on iPlayer this morning. I am stunned that the first lady has so many pets and because she's on benefits, surely this means her kids go without certain things? Liam was a grade A prat - thinks the world owes him a living because of his degree. I'd be interested to know what relevant work experience he has (if he wants to get into the media industry). His interpersonal skills were lacking and without wishing to sound snotty, his appearance left a lot to be desired. Maybe he thinks these things don't matter, well they bloody well do. I blame his family as much as him and if I was related to him I'd be crying in shame whilst watching this. I doubt any decent potential employers would want to take him on on the evidence of last nights show.

WTF happened to wanting to support yourself and doing an honest days pay?

I thought Liam had a huge sense of entitlement to be honest, and I think he thinks he is too good for 'normal' jobs, haven't got much sympathy for him.
