He is fab and an example to other chefs in how to behave. No need for all that sweary nonsense. It looks like Tom Kerridge is also going to co-present and he is also lovely. I will be watching. It's starting next Monday on BBC2.

I would rather be told where we can buy the wines!

Ah. Review on ThirstForWine.co.uk

The new programme has an issue though, but they may have turned the weakness into an opportunity ? or at least partly.

The BBC is enforcing its guidelines to avoid mentioning or endorsing specific brands, and while that may be OK for a cut of pork, or balsamic vinegar as a cooking ingredient, it is not helpful for wine. Consumers expect to know what wine is being drunk and tasted so they might find it and buy it.

Other programmes, such as Saturday Kitchen, also include wine content, and presenters such as Olly Smith, Tim Atkin, Susie Barrie and Peter Richards show a single bottle and because of this, it is almost exclusively selected from UK supermarket shelves so that it is available to a majority of the show?s audience.

Food & Drink gets around the issue of where to select wines from by having Kate Goodman focusing on the provenance of the wine itself, educating the audience (in a gentle way) about styles of wine rather than promoting individual bottles ? and therefore studiously ensuring the brand is not shown, but being able to use wines only available in smaller merchants, and at a much higher average price point. Last night?s wines were a £13 Dao red from Portugal and a £13 German Riesling.

[if you want to know what I believe the wines were, visit my That Wine on TV site - just a play-thing at the moment]

A bit like making Film 2013 without naming any specific films then.

I bet they didn't gi e the wine info. E cause they want you to go to the website. I also like that programme that came from borough market, I think tom Parker-Bowles was in it sometimes, was it called Market Kit hen or something?

Forgot to add that I would have liked stockists to have been mentioned..

Just caught up now. Agreeing with other posters. Blokes good but the wine woman a bit weak, needs more enthusiasm

I agree quenelle, very disappointed and not a patch on Saturday Kitchen

It was all quite contrived in the way that BBC food shows are these days.

30 minutes just isn't long enough for me and I agree that Kate is no match for Jilly.

It's available to watch on iPlayer for another month.

I wasn't keen on the wine woman either. She's definitely no Jilly!

It was a bit bland.

I was disappointed in the wine bit. The woman (forgotten her name) didn't give details of any of the drinks (I assume she couldn't for some reason) I'd have liked her to suggest a good Riesling to try and where to buy it etc. Like they do on Saturday Kitchen.

I think if it was on for one hour instead that would improve things.

Oooh, I don't know. I watched it last night and thought it quite bland. Needs more seasoning despite MRJr and TK

Yes, Tom is very down to earth!

Loved this. Tom Kerridge is my favourite, I'm desperate to go to hid pub and stay.

Loved his 3 types of cider, sleeping cider, dancing cider and fighting cider!

I was on a fast day yesterday too Southeast so didn't dare watch. I have only just now watched this. I enjoyed it too, but one hour would have been better than half. Tom and Michel are lovely. I liked Kate too.

I really enjoyed it, but thought it felt a bit rushed at only half an hour. Surely it used to be an hour long in the old days? I would have been quite happy to have had more (even though I was on a fast day too).

Dreams I think you're right as it did say 'guest presenter -Tom Kerridge' in the closing credits.

I thought it was really interesting and fun although I couldn't watch the mealworm burger section yuck

Hi jilted No, because I'd already bought it. It's working a treat so far but I can't stress enough how important it is to keep busy on fast days and probably avoiding any food and drink shows! Counting down the hours now untill I watch this tomorrow night with dinner and a glass or two of wine...

South did the fast diet for a while last year and am going to start it again soon, once I've got over this bloody chest infection. Can completely see why watching the food and drink programme would be an issue on a fast day.

Did you get The Fast Diet when it was the kindle daily deal on Saturday?

I get the feeling the lovely Michel has a guest presenter each week, as next week it looks like Mary Berry.

No thanks gail, had 2 for tea and just couldn't manage another.

Wing they are good together aren't they, if slightly comical looking. Love the woman who is suggesting wines too.

Now for Dancing on the Edge.....

Isn't it a great programme?! Except I didn't realise Tom was quite that large when I saw him on Masterchef the Professionals and he makes MRJr look absolutely tiny Shock I do think he's great though and they make a great pair.

Aren't Michel's teeth blinking white? Grin
