Anyone fancy joining me in living life according to Granny Murray's advice?

As of yesterday, I decided that I would endeavour to live my life according to Granny Murray's words of wisdom (childminder in CBeebies' Me Too! if you've never heard of her).

Every episode she comes out with some pleasantly obvious and trivial aphorism which the characters remember in the nick of time, and which solves all their problems.

In the absence of any other guiding philosophy/religion in my life, I have decided to live by her advice each day, and when in doubt, ask myself "what would Granny Murray do?"

Yesterday, she advised me to make the most of the sunshine. Today, it's more haste, less speed. I am surely on a fast track to canonisation if I continue to follow this path.

Anyone else fancy joining me? Or do you have another TV mentor?

"Always take the advice you give"

Well I shall be re reading this thread to find something suitable to get me through the rest of half term today.

Where is everyone else?

Only caught last 5 mins but think it was along lines of when it is raining it's good to remind people off the sun, will bear that in mind as I cajole 3 dripping children to school!

"We all need a helping hand from time to time"

Yes, I could do with a helping hand with non sleeping toddlers .

Granny Murray's house is windy, she can fly a kite inside the house.

Oh good that hopefully means that the admin staff at school will be all grumpy today due to all my frowning at being expected to sit at school for half an hour between parents evening appointments while dh tries to get everyone to bed. Everyone else has sibling appointments within 10 minutes, except me, frown frown!

"Smiles spread and so do frowns"

I wish sleep spread in this house. It isn't natural to be up at this time of the day, I'm sure Confused.

It's brilliant to be able to do more than one thing

She was talking about having more than one skill, but I think that might mean that it would be really good if I sit down and have a relax while ds is at preschool as well as tidying the conservatory!

She means Claude's emissions.

So this gist of today's advice was "sometimes you have to clear up after others".
Sometimes??? She has clearly never been to my house...

So if I don't know how to do something, it is possible so I shouldn't try, is that what she is saying. I know how to make chocolate cake, but I don't know how to make waldorf salad. Should I just eat cake forever? Is that what she is saying?

i agree. It's also more of a "something to appreciate" rather than specific advice. If someone can invent DP a memory so he wakes me at 7.30 rather than 6.30 as agreed after rather large night out I would be most grateful

Remember some of the best inventions are discovered by accident

well if someone accidently discovers a way to stop dh waking me up at 4am and then fidgeting until ds wakes me a 6, please let me know. Might just have to continue yesterday's advice.

Today's is "Play safe, play well". I'm not sure how to apply that to the rest of the day Confused.

I'm ignoring the ship-shape one.

I have a pirate ship mold, is she telling me I should make a ship shaped cake?

Report
3duracellbunnies · 23/09/2012 07:29

Oh no, she sounds like my mother now, more pressure to get the house tidy for ds's party. It was going too be at the park but the forecast of torrential downpours makes that unlikely, so have had to wade through loads of tidying as well as usual party prep.

Hopefully she doesn't mean that the storm will turn the house into a ship and we need to be preparing to hoist the mainsail!
