My dd is 13 and having a complete thyroidectomy in 2 weeks. Her disease causes stress and stress makes it worse. She can't be prescribed anxiety meds because of that. Believe me I have gone thru pediatrician 2 endocrinologist and a surgeon they just can't prescribed. Counseling has done basically FA. The closer we get the worse she is behaving.
Today she threw a door and threatened to run away. She has tried a few times but either been found or come home on her own. Nearly every female in my family has had to have this surgery. Not getting it is not an option. Her swallowing is being impacted. Has anyone gone thru this? I don't know what to say to help her. I know she's scared hell I'm scared too. But the way she's living with this disease and what its doing is far worse.
