where are you taking your teens on holiday this summer please?

After some good news y/day (husband in remission) we feel we can safely book a holiday for the first time in 6 years! Budget around £4,000 would like at least 10 days. Ideas and recommendations on places to keep three 16yr olds happy and give us a break...........achievable? Thanks :)

horsemad - we're staying at Camping del Garda in Peschiera; it's a medium sized site with enough to do but not as huge as Bella Italia, down the road which everyone seems to favour (it sounds more full-on which my two introverts might find a bit too much!!)
Our site has a couple of bars and restaurants but is only 15 mins walk along the lake into the little town with loads of choice of eateries.

You mentioned North Africa. What about a couple of days in Cairo followed a beachy week in Sharm? Nice mix of sightseeing and sunbathing, with option to do world class scuba diving in Sharm. Pick a great AI hotel and I reckon everyone will be happy.

Are they doing GSCE's? If so you could go straight after exams & hopefully the holiday companies won't have hiked the prices up too much.

The best holidays we've had have been 'doing something'; learning to sail & waterski (Neilsons or Mark Warner) & learning to Scuba dive.

Turkey might be a good bet? The Bodrum peninsula has plenty to offer.

I know Puerto Soller well. We used to own an apartment in Puerto Pollensa, often used to drive up into the mountains to a photo spot, there was a tiny café perched up there where they used to squeeze oranges for you by hand. It looked down on Puerto Soller. They were happy days, a long time ago...........

There is a small resort called Porto de Soller in Majorca which has a sandy harbour, with swimming, you can scuba or take a fishing trip, v civilised environment, tourist train to palma, small interesting art gallery in Soller the next town up, good walking. Easy to get to. Not as much night life as some places, but good beer.

OK, this is going to sound like an odd suggestion but bear with!!

Tenerife!! I went there with my DC and we went whale watching and saw dolphins in a catamaran. There are two major animal parks, Loro Parque and Parq Las Aquilas. Both were fabulous!!

XDH went off on a boat fishing for the day in hope of catching marlin and had a great time.

If you stay away from Playa Las Americas the rest of Tenerife is quite naice.

We are doing a small AI in Ibiza for a week and a week camper vanning in Cornwall, doing surf school each day. We are taking two 17 yo, one 13 and a small one!

The boys like fishing, they all like swimming/all love animals. They would love to go back to America, that what they remember and keep saying they would like to do. So would we, but finances just wont stretch. I suppose our American holidays have always been an adventure, I think they certainly learned a lot and they have never forgotten it. I have to be realistic now and say that my dhs cancer has taken its toll on him even though he is in remission. He has slowed right down, doesn't have the same energy levels he used to have, so long days driving are out. We both need a real break, we are older parents and with the last 6 years of endless hospital visits, stroppy teenagers, its been very hard.

Personally I would book the teens into a medium priced hotel with WiFi and room service and LEAVE THEM THERE while you and your DH go off to do whatever you want.

Actually my two really enjoyed a trip to Venice last year......

We took our teens to Barcelona last year and they loved it. We spent half the time around the pool and the other half sightseeing/shopping/eating.they enjoyed it so much that they are going again this year......without us!! Gulp first holiday without the parents. I will go grey that week.

Nothing coming up so far, we are not thinking of a road trip as much as we would love to, as my dh cannot get travel insurance for the States because of the cancer, even though he is in remission:( Europe is ok. Just finding the right thing!

A colleague of dh just came back from Costa Rica which was brilliant for bird watching.

We go with bil, sil and dn15. Dh wants to make sure some bird watching is done. Girls want to lay around pool in a succession of bikinis (and hope there are hot boys) bil and sil would be happy to do the same ( sans bikinis and hot boys) Me I want to go to New York but no fucker ever asks me

I'd second Roses or that part of Spain, easy to fly into Barcelona, could spend some time there, maybe go south to the theme park then up the coast to Roses, the ruins at Empuriabrava. Do your teens like the beach.

I only ask because one of mine doesn't her idea of hell is 2 weeks at a beach resort, we usually do city breaks, touring & sightseeing holidays or hiking with scenery plus a few R&R days

We have a 15, 13 and 10 yo.

We are driving to Roses in Spain. There's lots of sightseeing to do. We will go to Figueres and Cadaques. There is a walk you can do to a monastery. We will visit the Dali museum. We will also laze around the pool, or on the beach, I am sure.

Last year we went to St Paul de Vence in the south of France. There's loads to do round that area. We used the trains a lot, but also had the car for visiting places like Vence, and Tourettes sur Loup.

I love this kind of holiday, now they are a bit older.

We are off to this hotel in Spain this year www.sunsetbeachclub.com/ the resort it's in is busier than what we would normally choose, but it been recommended to us by friends with teenagers.

I think California road trip sounds amazing and is something we would love to do, but think it's probably out of your budget of £4k unless you can get a really good deal on the flights.

I have it on good account that the place for bird watching is Nicaragua, my best friend who lives in Cornwall has just bought an isleta in Lake Nicaragua! The isleta is called El Coyol and she has mega plans to make it into something very special to rent to one group of friends! When she is out there and phones me up the bird song and howlers (monkeys) are amazing!
