This is what I have learned this evening...

Beast = very good.
Peak = rubbish, unfair.

If anyone can add anything else, please do, in the interests of helping me understand what my son is saying to me. Grin

My teens must live in a middle class bubble, I've only heard them use 'sick' - one of them chats a lot on the xbox to his mates but he speaks much like he would speak to me but without the attitude

Did DD get those off of Love Island? I shudder to think.
No 😂 no one said that sort of thing on love island, it’s more from American YouTubers from what I can tell.

Yeet is something I keep hearing, I assume it means throw or something? “Just yeet it over there”

I have started to use these words with my children, after asking my kids what they mean:

Mad - Cool etc.
Mandem - Group of friends
Wagwan piffting - A greeting, to friends, or to someone you find attractive

Bare Prang = Feeling pretty rubbish.
Can also relate to feeling wasted 'because man been smokin bare skunk'

Bayden = rich / minted

Tingsing = flirt.

That's my lot.

Linda I agree that G is probably getting it's origins from Gangster but my DC don't really understand the context of that properly - so it just means 'cool person'.

Yeah to the bruv thing although, as far as I can tell:

Bruv = friend
Cuz = might be cousin, but equally someone of a similar age who is close
Fam = family but also 'friendship family'

Will look out for Boonk Gang. It used to be 'tax' in my day. "Got no money? Just tax it innit"

Oh dear. I will have to keep an eye on the Girldem.

Re the most recent message, I have always understood 'G' to be short for 'gangster'. My son (similar cultural context - Surrey stockbroker belt - but DS is almost 20 Confused) also refers to friends as 'G' (used to be bredren), and he refers to absolutely EVERYTHING as 'gangster' - "do you like your new skateboard?" "Yeah it's gangster" etc etc, it's definitely a positive! Sometimes this is merely "gang gang", seemingly said randomly, or "gang shit" which is also a positive adjective. One to watch out for is 'boonk gang" which DS and his 'bredren' use as a synonym for steal - eg "We'll just bonk gang that shit bruv", I picked up on this one early so able to act on it.

Of course all the typical ones persist, innit, jokes ting, bloodclart, etc. Everything is "af", everyone and I mean EVERYONE is "Bruv", and if the sentence doesn't begin with bruv, it begins with "Yo", eg "Yo, I'm hungry af bruv". Anyway, I digress. Ninety percent of it has 'gang' in the word, that seems to be the prominent slang of the day.

Yeah I know it's a zombie thread but just updating the latest from DD

G - for mate - still yes. Also used to denote someone who is cool to hang out with. "She's such a G!"
Bare - for lots/very - still yes
Fleek - still yes

But. Breaking news is that Peng has been replaced by Piff. "She a bare Piff ting".

For cultural context, DD is 12 and from an affluent and leafy suburb of London 😂

Gillywillywoo. I know this is an old post but don’t encourage ‘Gash’. It refers to a vagina. If my DS referred to girls as ‘gash’ he’d have to apologise very quickly. Luckily none of my four have been very big on slang. I instilled in them the need to speak well for their future. I’m an older parent who was brought up by older parents so I have old fashioned values and my children (even my 15year old twins) like that and are genuinely embarrassed about their own generation. I’m not a snob, I just want the best for my children.

It's hardly a zombie thread is it! 😂 It's going to be relevant through all times and even though t was started in 2013 it's still be going for 2/3 years. The last post before today was only 3 days ago.

I think we all realise it's an old thread but the conversation is still valid because it's about slang so I can't see why the thread can't continue.

I've only skimmed this thread but it always makes me smile when DC start with some slang that's in at the time since so much of it is based on Jamaican patois and my parents are Jamaican and I lived there for a few years as a child. So, DC are often using slang I've known my whole life, e.g. creps, batty (not the same as the derogatory battyman as someone thought unthread), man dem, from time, wah gwaan, bredrin, etc. Plus, they often have throw backs to slang everyone used in my teens. DC are now more surprised when I don't already know their slang, for instance DD2 recently said her friend was trying to ship some other friends. Apparently, it means trying to get someone into a relationship.

I forgot "squad" = group of friends. But never, ever "a squad" or "the squad" or "my squad" - only "squad"

Beef = argument/fight as in 'beefy party last night' or 'lots of beef at school today.'
I quite like using the abbreviated ones - obvs, hilarious, gorge and cray-cray. At 50 maybe I shouldn't... But at 50 I don't really care what people think.. :)
