No growth spurt yet?

I wanted to canvass experiences really. DS is 13 next month and has only grown about 1.5 inches since he was 10. Weighs 7st. He's showing some signs of puberty (needing deodorant, a few hairs here & there, certain "parts" enlarging and needing care and erm attention daily, a bit moody).

But no growth spurt, not even his feet which are still only size 4. He's just a little over 5 foot (155 cm). His dad and grandads are well over six foot, paternal grandmother pretty tall, me and my mother and grandmothers all about 5'4").

So at what age please did all your teenage boys do the massive growth thing?

Ds is 12 and about 5 foot 6, size 6 shoes. However he is really baby faced compared to his peers who all look like proper teenagers. He still looks like a boy, no body hair, squeaky voice.
Guess they all get there in their own time!

wechmy your brother may not have a 'growth spurt' as such, but creep gradually towards your dad's height over the next couple of years. Growth spurts aren't universal and girls in particular don't always have noticeable ones.

My DD's red book used to have a growth chart that went all the way up to age 20 and the lines on there were quite interesting - admittedly they are all statistically averaged out, but you can see that girls don't 'shoot up' as much as boys and that shorter-than-average children often grow very gradually, especially if their parents aren't exactly basketball-team material.

my brother is 16, 17 in 4 months. He's around 5 foot 7, but is growing really slowly. my dad is around 5 foot 10/11, and my mother is 5 foot 3. my older sister is the expected height for girls (used this height calculator i found online), but i'm about 3 inches taller than that. will my brother ever have his growth spurt? i really want him to be taller than me, and my dad; around 6 foot... my dad is one of the tallest in his extended family, but his parents are short, and i'm the tallest out of all my cousins, aunts, and some uncles.

Is there a correlation between puberty/growth spurts and teeth?
My DSs orthodontist said that my DS, whose is 13 and has no signs of puberty or growth spurt yet, will start puberty once more of his adult teeth come through.
Sorry, he did tell me which ones but I can't remember.
My DS has always been smaller than average and got his teeth quite late compared to my friends' kids.

Hopefully he'll age slower, there has to be an upside because he is anxious about his height and lack of body-hair/voice change etc.

My DS1 (12y9m) always does his main growing in September. So I buy the uniform for the new school year and he has always grown out of it by October. He doesn't seem to grow much at any other time, only when I've just bought new uniform. So I would suggest buying new uniform, then your DS is almost guaranteed to grow.

Abra1d, if it's any consolation, I was one of the smallest in my class 'til I reached 16, then hit puberty and grew to be one of the tallest at 5'9 :)

Does anyone have reassurance about girls? I have a 14-year-old girl who is almost completely undeveloped and small. Do girls sometimes hit their spurts late, too?

I'm 5'2 DH is about 5'9 neither of us tall.
DS1 was always the tallest in the class (he was nearly 2 months prem and I always thought he'd be small and thin). He's now 20 and 6'4 (slim build).
DS2 was always average height at primary but when he went to high school his friends just grew and grew - he didn't. About 6 months ago (he's now a couple of months off 16) I was really worried that he hadn't reached puberty and was considering taking him to the doctors.
Now his voice is now breaking and he's growing hair in all the right places. He must be about 5'4. I don't think he'll ever be tall but he is growing.
DD is about 5'5 at 18.
Think they all grow at different rates.

My two boys grew very differently.
DS1 was always on the small size..less than 25th centile and I worried he would be like his Grandad.. 5 ft 1!! He grew really slowly but at 19 is now 5 ft 9, not tall but not 'short bloke' category and I think he is still growing slowly. His voice broke at about 14

DS2 on the other hand 98th centile all the way.. puberty at 10, voice broke at 11 and ridiculously hairy. Reached 6 ft at 14 then just stopped. I was told the faster he grew the sooner he would finish and it seems they were right. Not such a bonus for him as he is 15 but mentally (learning diffs) about 8 :/
And his size 12 feet are a pain as he can't do shoe laces and finding velcro that big is a challenge

Oh. so glad I found this thread! My two (twins) are 12 in a couple of weeks, and are only 140cm! Most of their friends already tower over them, and they got really upset at a theme park in the summer when they were refused entry to some rides their 9 Nd 10 yr old cousins could go on. They are convinced they will never grow!

My 13 and 14 year olds are growing but no growth spurt. It's funny to see my 14 year old, year 10, with his mates. Most of them are huge with broken voices, ds is diddy, with a high voice. His dad is 5'8", but half bangladeshi, with quite petite men on that side of the family. He says he didn't really hit puberty till after 15/16 so I'm guessing the boys will take after their dad?

I find this thread reassuring. My Ds has had steady slow growth. he is 5ft 6in at 16 but I'm pretty sure still growing. he seems behind peers in facial hair etc - just a bit later developing. I'm hoping he'll grow a few more inches.

Thea, I've just ordered some old men's Blue Harbour range winter-weight navy cord trousers from M&S for him .

He has Aspergers, has no interest whatsoever in normal teen culture fashion or his appearance, and is totally happy for old Mum to buy his clobber for him, in spite of me BEGGING him to go to Hollister or Superdry. He tells me he has no desire to succumb to teenage herd conformity and to line the coffers of child-labour-exploiting multinationals! M&S would appear to be the exception to the rule of course.

Ds grew early. He's now 16. Went to his GCSE presentation evening yesterday and actually it looked like some if them still had some growing to do! Not just short but baby faced too.

Some however looked very mature indeed. Ds said of one particular Sikh friend, with very full beard, turban and tweed jacket with elbow patches, that he fully thought someone would ask if his son was starting the school soon - he was walking round with his 8yr old little brother lol

DS (16) didn't start his growth spurt until he was nearly 15. I worried a lot about the fact he seemed so physically immature compared to some of his friends, but he has shot up from 5'4" to 6'2" over the last 18 months! He has only had to shave for the last 4 months (a wee bit of moustache once a week) but he has terrifically hairy legs and pits.

His feet grew from size 7 to size 11 over this period, and he has bad stretch marks around his back and hips from growing so fast. I now have awful trouble finding trousers to fit him (35/36" inside leg and 32" waist).

I'm glad to read this too. My DS is 13 and is short for his age and his feet haven't grown for such a long time and not much sign of puberty either. I keep expecting a growth spurt but DH is only 5 9 - although grandfathers are nearer 6ft. And like workshy he has a sibling who is growing at a rate of knots. Not much help for OP but I think it means we need to just need to sit back and wait for them to grow. DH says he was the same in school and then one day to quote him "he just grew"

My DS started the growth spurt just before he hit 14 and he has grown 6 inches in one year, hair growing, hormones raging etc
Has had a lot of knee problems as his muscles/tendons haven't been able to cope with his rapid height growth. Oh and shoe size has gone from 5-8 in year too- its expensive!!

i dont know but my son has not grown taller since he was 13 and a half (5'8) and now he is 15 and a half and has not seen any changes.. will he grow sooner?? .. but he has not had a growth spurt as well, but has hit puberty. i my self is not tall i am 5'1.5 and my husband is 5'5 .. so pls let me know if my son will have a massive growth spurt..

I worry about my DS. I am only 5ft and DS(14) is very small for his age (compared to his friends who all seem to be giants) I hated being small and still do and I just feel for my son. I do hope that he grows to at lease average height :(

Ds1 is 15. He is taller than me but shorter than most of his friends. I'm not too worried yet though as his feet did have a growth spurt and he is a size10. I fully expect him to grow into them any day soon. :)
