Fat transfer for undereye hollows/tear troughs?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone here has had fat transfer rather than fillers to the tear trough area? I've got genetic hollowness under there that's only become a problem from my late 20s, but it's getting worse and worse as time goes on. :(

I'm attracted by fat transfer rather than fillers as fat transfer is permanent while fillers need to be repeated, and I'd much rather have the hollowness sorted once and for all, rather than forever have to go back to get the filler, which would work out much more expensive in the end.

I've seen it recommended to use an oculoplastic surgeon for anything to do with fat transfer around the eyes, and Dr Jesper Sorensen (sorensenclinic.com/aesthetic-surgery/face/fat-transfer/) seems to tick all the boxes - anyone have any experience with him, or just with fat transfer in general?

Not seen anyone about this yet, just gathering info!

How long does fat transfer to the face realistically last? Can some of it really remain permanently?

Especially around the eyes/hollow around eyelids.

And how risky a procedure is it, if you go with an oculoplastic surgeon?

Sorry to hear this. Has he said why he won't rectify it?

I really need to talk to someone.
my son is 30 and has attacked me 4 times. I blame myself because I married a man who was a narcissist and was cruel to me and my son.
I stupidly gave my son £50,000 from my inheritance to set himself up and leave home . I only charged him £100 rent so he could save. During Covid he got me by the neck and dragged upstairs. I called police but in end begged them to drop charges as I didn’t want him to lose job. I took him back against domestic abuse advice and police advice.
it was on condition he left home . He’s still here and I want to sell my house and buy another and live with a wonderful man I met 3 years ago. But I feel worried and guilty about leaving my son who is 32. I think he’s blown the money he had . I don’t know what’s right.

It didn’t work out for me with him. I had a facial fat transfer following fat loss from laser. The face general was ok all be it a small improvement. Unfortunately I had fat put at the very bottom on my eye bag I think these are tear troughs .. it’s left some malar edaema and a fat lump at the very top of my cheek bone…

I understood the risks but I didn’t understood why he wouldn’t address the fat lump which is a result of overfill in a smallish area… prior to the surgery I understood there would be an attempt to rectify this.

I’ve had experience. I had a facial fat transfer which was ok generally . Unfortunately I also had fat put in tear trough area. This resulted in on overfill one side .. underneath the tear trough area and a small fat lump. He was not willing to rectify this even though he said he would sfo so should there be any issues. Now have to go elsewhere at more expensive.

I know this thread is quite old but if anyone could help me with further info about blepharoplasty with Jesper Sorensen, I would be really grateful. I've just been to see him about a revision upper bleph and possible fat transfer, but feeling very cautious due to past bad experience elsewhere with my first surgery. I've also seen 4 other eye surgeons, but feel that JS is "the one". Just need some reassurance! Thank you everyone - it's such a scary business!

Hi All,

I went to see Jesper Sorensen and was really impressed with his consultation last week. I had bad surgery about 8 years ago in the states and have been trawling the earth seeking a competent surgeon to fix the mess the last surgeon did. I have probably had 20 consultations from London, NY to LA, only one other surgeon that impressed me was in LA , Dr Haworth, but after seeing Jesper Sorensen I am convinced he is my revision surgeon going forward.

My problem now is that I am so anxious in trusting any surgeon ever, after what I went through.

Is there any one out there that can talk me through their past experiences with Sorensen or about to have surgery with Sorensen and would like some support them, Id be happy to support some one via email who is going to have surgery with him shortly.

Please contact me asap, as I am looking forward to going ahead with this
if I get enough replies from here.

Really looking forward to chatting to anyone over Sorensen..

Thank you so much that's really useful. I presume hospital fees need to be added to that also. :)

I just hope I'll have enough fat for fat transfer as a make. I'm hoping they don't need as much.

It's hard to find much information on Dr Sorensen given there's no before and afters of his work etc. With that said he seems very skilled at what he does. It would be great to share more about your experience.

My email is [email protected]

I'm glad you are happy and had a great result. Hoping for similar. :)

Chris

Hi Chris

Below is an extract from the quote I received in June 2014.

'The initial consultation fee is £250 and the fee for periorbital fat transfer is £3,400 as a day case procedure.'

I was also quoted £2,600 for any additional fat transfer.

I ended up having blepharoplasty, fat transfer and a brow lift and that cost £11,780. It is expensive but worth every penny.

I was very bruised and swollen for 2 weeks post op. By week 3 most of the bruising was obscured by my glasses. There was never any pain and I was back at work 10 days after the operation.

Happy to answers any other questions.

Hi Karryn. I have a consult with Dr Sorensen next Friday regarding fat transfer under my eyes which are a big hollow. Do you mind me asking roughly what the cost was and what your recovery was like ? Thanks so much. Chris

Jesper Sorensen performed a fat transfer procedure to my lower eye (tear trough), forehead, temple and upper lip area in December 2014. The results are fabulous and very natural looking. The £250 consultancy fee is a one off charge and all further appointments are free. I made 2 appointments before the operation and had several follow up appointments thereafter - which were included in the initial consultation fee.

I would recommend him without hesitation.

Hi I know this thread was some time ago but I am interested in facial fat transfer by Dr Sorensen, I have emailed for information several times but have yet to get a reply. Is anyone able to tell me how much fat transfer to the face costs with this doctor? I don't even have an idea of cost. Thanks for any information

Thanks for the links and info. Sometimes it seems insane to care enough about dark hollows to think of doing something about it... But equally it is miserable looking miserable if something could be done with 'negligible' risk! I swither endlessly.

I hoped in the hands of an oculoplastic specialist using a cannula it would be relatively safe, but hadn't come across this particular issue in my research. Did I understand right, the droplets migrated across the capillary membrane, rather than entering a blood vessel through direct accidental injection?

Unfortunately HA not an option, and the surgeons who are really phenomenally qualified to inject anything near eyes say they don't do this. Sigh.

Hi, I had juvederm tear trough fillers last summer, had researched fat transfer as well. Unfortunately my research pointed to a couple of documented cases of blindness following fat transfer, it's because there is a chance fat droplets can migrate into the capillaries around the eyes and cause blockages in the blood vessels in the retina which is very bad news. (I work in ophthalmology by the way)

I can't recommend juvederm enough, I had to have two doses to get a good result but it seems to be lasting well.
