Spent hours shopping for a dress for a wedding reception today in all the usual high street shops and I pretty much hated everything I saw, and all the shops were full of the same things. Horrible shiny, cheap looking crap with lace/pleather panels.
I have given up on looking again and plan to buy online and send back what doesn't fit.
So, looked at Boden - don't really do anything not casual or worky, Hush (I love Hush) but is obv FAR too casual, People Tree - nothing I really want and isn't free returns.

Any suggestions? I don't have loads of money but hate cheap crap (not easy!)

I love the &other stories dress.

Joy the store is great but some of their Louche dresses are in some godawful fabric that creases like buggery. They do do very nice different dresses.

I tried some dresses on in zara but medium was too small on the hips and large was huge round the boobs. very annoying!

The boots are white stuff and are wedges, I never wear heels and don't want to buy something I won't wear again and like I said its only the eve do so I doubt anyone will even notice or care what I look like, I just want to feel good myself Smile

Without meaning to diss your style at all (that All Saints dress is lovely) - those Fat Face boots are the least weddingy, or even night-out-y, footwear I can imagine. Would you consider heeled shoes instead?

Have you done Zara already? It might have something with that 'feel' to it but cheaper?

I'm desperately trying to think of a shop someone linked to ages back that might have done.

That's a lot for a polyester dress.. I think it will be shiny which I think you didn't like.

That &other stories dress is a bit long. I've bought these boots which I'm planning to wear. Not trad wedding gear but its just an evening reception.

I looked in the Whistles shop and it was too expensive for me and no sale section, looked lovely stuff though.

I'll have a look at Massimo Dutti now.

Somethingyesterday, that looks nice but is too expensive, thanks for the tip though.

Forgot about All Saints, there's one in town I'll go if I see anything on the website.

Or how about this?

Perhaps a little more than you want to spend - but you may want to keep them in mind for future reference. Very good sales generally. (And nothing like the High Street...)

& other stories has some nice stuff but best to see in person if you can at all, the regent street store is huge but quickly sells out of sizes and I find the fit a bit weird.

For weddings it's not edgy but I like whistles dresses

Grin It's a pleasure!

But how about this instead for the wedding?

I second Great Plains. Atterley Rd? I also like John Lewis site when I can't be arsed to hunt through all retailers own sites. And they tend to filter out the tackier end of high street brands like warehouse or mango which is good.
Cos stuff always looks weirdly sack-like on me, but great on other people, very hard to tell without trying. Worth checking out "& other stories" too? Same company as Cos (and H&M).

Like this www.stories.com/New_in/Ready-to-wear/Fitted_long-sleeved_dress/591735-593837.1 but a bit boring?
I think I'm going to ignore that its a wedding and just get something I like and will wear down the pub. (on the rare occasion I get to go out)

Collectif looks ok but the fabrics of the dresses I like are 97% polyester so not too keen. I like 60s style but not in a fancy dress way.
Thanks for your suggestion though.

Will check out &other stories now.
