GHD or Remington Keratin straighteners that are less than half the price

Don't muck about- get the GHD's. I have a set from 2008 used daily (for most of that time twice a day) since and they're still in perfect working order. The newer ones are also good, DSis has some. They're lighter and I would love to get a new set but can't justify it as my antiques ones are still grand.

Well I have bought the Remington keratin ones now and just waiting on them being delivered. Think I have sold my older set of ghd's on gumtree (if person turns up).

Will update on my verdict in a couple of days.

Ok, I can contribute to this thread (somewhat). I have mixed race curly hair which I have been straightening since year dot. My old straigtheners gave up the ghost two weeks ago and I was contemplating buying GHD's, but wow, the cost! Ending up buying Babyliss Pro Elegance 235 as they were on offer in Argos for around £30 They were rubbish. Returned them and got Remington Shine Therapy (half price at £40) and they are brilliant. I've used GHD's in hairdressers and honestly cannot tell the difference in quality (in fact I have to say I think I prefer the Remington) The Remingtons have variable control up to 230c but I get fab results at 210 - have not even had to try 230. Obv everyone has diff hair and experience, but as someone who uses them pretty much everyday (naughty I know!), I think they are a brilliant product for an excellent price.

Thanks for letting us know Amum - think my job next week is to try and sell my wide ghd's on gumtree and if I get them sold for the same price as the Remington's then I will buy the Remingtons. If I do I will come back and give my humble opinion on them!

Ok, I've now tried wide GHDs, Bbayliss and the Remington ones I bought.

I've out the Remingtons on hotter and actually now I think they are just as good as the others. I don't think the GhD ones are all that compared to the other two. The Babyliss Pros were great. Very good value!

Hi OP my GHDs have been great. I've had them for years and they straighten/ curl hair in a very small amount of time. They are usually more expensive then other straighteners but I think their worth it :) hope this helps x

Amumincognito - what a disappointment. I have two pairs of ghd's. One about 7 years old that are ghd flat irons. My mum gave me a brand new set as her Parkinson's was just too bad to use them (well a few months old).

The new ones I have are not hot enough to use with the Brazilian Blow dry kit I bought. From what I can find out the old ones aren't hot enough either.

I wanted to buy the Remington ones as they are hot enough but just can't justify £40 on straightners when I have two sets that work perfectly fine.

Amumincognito - if you had raved about the Remington ones I would have bought them and tried to sell my old ghd's but not sure now. Thanks for reporting back.

Reporting back too. The Remington Keratin ones, used yesterday, seem ok and definitely better than my old Remington Wet to Straight but haven't set my heart on fire. I can't compare them to GHD ones as I've only ever had them used by hairdressers who blow dry my hair so much better first.

The result is a bit straighter and a bit sleeker than Sioux the straighteners but not seriously shiny or perfectly frizz free. Contemplating ways to persuade Boots to take them back...now I'll always be wondering what GHDs would have been like.

Yes, I have the 'newer' model of the GHD's ( got them as a Xmas pressie last year) and i have to say they are not as good as the older models - they only heat up to 180 degrees and fail to leave me with the 'wow' factor that the older models did. I sold my older ones on eBay when I got these new ones, wish I hadn't! When these finally die, I don't think I'll go for GHD's again as I think either Babyliss or Remington ones will do just as good a job.

Reporting back.. Got the Loreal Steampod and OMG it's amazing! Never been able to straighten my hair before by myself and just done it! Definitely recommend it for others with thick curly hair

I have the thickest coarse hair imaginable.

I have flat iron ghd's (just thicker plate ghd's) and the new eclipse ghd ,my mum gave me hers as she can't use them for health reasons. They only heat up to 185 degrees. I am about to use Brazilian blow dry kit so need straighteners that go up to 230 degrees.

Saw your post about the Remington ones and they go up to 230degrees. I just can't justify £40 when I already have two pairs of ghd's.

I had my hair highlighted today and the hairdressers used the Remington keratin ones. My hair does look lovely and swishy, but usually does after being at a hair dressers even when they use the ghd's.

I have been no help at all, just thought I would let you know that my local hairdressers are using them and they worked well on my hair today.

My GHDs are the basic sort of standard model, Mk IV I think. And yes, I did get better shine from the Pearls. This has inspired me to go and find them today, actually!

Very useful to compare the GHDs to the Pearls. Which GHD model have you got?

The problem I have with my existing Remingtons (the wet to straight ones designed for use on wet hair) is that they take the shine away from my hair and don't make it that straight anyway. So are the Pearls (and also presumably then the Keratin ones that are the new version of the Pearls) better at keeping it shiny?

Honestly, I don't rate GHDs. I keep hearing that they've changed and the old ones were better, maybe there's something in that, but my set (bought in Feb this year) are no great shakes. I am using them, but only because I haven't got round to digging out my old Remington Pearls from wherever I stored them. The GHDs are really nothing special, and in fact I suspect they've damaged my hair more than the Remingtons ever did.

I've never owned GHD's so can't compare, however, my Remingtons (bought about a year ago) are great. Good variable temperature, straighten beatifully and clearly dont cause any problem to my hair as my hairdresser always comments on its lovely condition. And yes, they cost me about £40 off Amazon

Do you know the max temperature of the remmingtons? I have a babyliss pair they are amazing! I have a huge bush of a hair do and they are brilliant. As a hair stylist i use ghd's at work and mine work just as well. You could always give them a go if they dont work for you then return them

GHDs are the only straightener worth buying. £40.00 is a false economy!
I have two daughters and have tried few brands but GHDs are best in their opinions.
