Everything I have brought recently has been crap, including some pretty expensive stuff.

Where do you go for good quality that lasts?

Good: Whistles, Jigsaw, Cos, Me&Em, Uniqlo, All Saints

Acceptable: Warehouse, H&M

I buy everything in sales or on eBay and get a lot tailored to fit

Fenn Wright Manson lasts well, great for work clothes.

Phase Eight knitwear is good, m&s jeans last really well. Mint Velvet I like but isn't very durable for day to day.

Joules quality these days is shocking, their knitwear is shameful

I agree regarding long vest tops from H & M and Matalan.
White Company clothes are generally good quality.

Where can I buy a thin v neck or scoop neck short sleeved T-shirt in NAVY? preferably cotton?

I have a lot of Mint Velvet stuff that has lasted well, but I do handwash or dry clean some of it.

@bluecarrot - great suggestion for Braintree (now Thought). I hadn't heard of them before and now have 2 dresses on the way!

This makes me sad as not much in these shops suits me. I'm short and curvy and suit colour. Boden is ok I guess but I have had way too much bobbly stuff from there to consider it consistent quality.

I'm sitting here in a Toast cashmere jumper bought in the spring, which is going a bit bobbly, so not entirely impressed by the quality of their knitwear (although I have worn it loads). I have a couple of items in their workwear range - very heavy cotton skirts and dresses which look as if they'll go on for ever and will also look even better as they age.
Cos I have found almost indestructible - their knitwear in particular has lasted me ages. I've got several of their oversized cardigans which are looking good after lots of hard use.

I’ve bought things form Brora this last year and the quality is fantaistc.

Also I like Toast, Hush, Boden (search for the plain designs, they are great quality dresses/knitware and trousers).

I’ve gone right off Jigsaw, their knitware quality is shocking.

Men's clothes seem better made than women's clothes, worth a try for knitwear, tops, possibly jeans. No good for skirts and dresses.

Boden cashmere is great. I have some nice things from joules, hush, jigsaw and mint velvet. Monsoon sometimes too.

White stuff used to be great about a decade ago and I still have the odd bit from back then. These days it's per una for twice the cost.

I live in a small city and shopping isn't easy. I tend to go online.

Uniqlo- some real gems here and great quality. M&S - again some gems but I have to hunt for them.

White Company was great about 8 years ago, now I find the quality poor and loads of synthetics.
I like Pure and John Lewis for Cashmere, and Jaegar if I want a coat to last forever!

I think you have to look after clothes to make them last TBH. I occcasionally hand wash things or use that setting on my machine.

How are you washing them?

Coats etc you really get what you pay for- a high wool content- 80% min. is worth the money.

My clothes rarely ever wear out- I end up flogging on Ebay.

I buy Boden, Uniqlo, JIgsaw, White Company, and tiny bit at John Lewis.

My biggest disappointment is with White Stuff- jumpers have bobbled quickly.

Matalan [i know its totally not S&B but!] do brilliant extra long vests and crew necked t shirts that wash and last really well [look in the basics section online].They also have pretty good silk shirts in the Et Vous brand and Modal scoop necked t shirts in the 'newly added' index.

Great thread -I'm sick of looking in shops where everything is acrylic! Unfortunately I have cashmere tastes and acrylic money! Just ordered a few things from Uniqlo, easy knit leggings so hope they're ok, but desperately need a few long lengths tops as I'm tall and skinny. Had a look at Baukjen and me & em as recommended but still too expensive in the sales :(. Anybody know of any cheaper secret online stores that may have escaped my notice?

I got a pair of Aldo platform boots second hand about 4 years ago. They are amazing quality and appear completely indestructible. The few Whistles things that I've bought in sales have worn well as have Monsoon skirts and tops although not trousers.
