Toyota is currently running the Toyota Positive movement and would love to know how Mumsnetters would use a Toyota Prius Plug In Hybrid to brighten up London or your local area for a day. Here's what they say:

"We're inspiring uplifting gestures and selfless acts of thoughtfulness by combining the good-natured public spirit with the positive power of the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid. Whether it's releasing a boot-full of bright balloons next to a dreary bus stop or taking your elderly neighbour to the hairdressers; post your positive idea here by 6th May and the Toyota team will choose the best positive idea to bring to life. Be sure to support your favourites with a comment!"

So please share your ideas for bringing some positivity to your local area, including any fun and selfless acts your DCs would like to do.

Those of you who comment and are based in London will be in with a chance of winning the use of a Prius Plug-In Hybrid* for a day along with everything it takes to bring your idea to life (on the weekend of 11/12 May). For those of you not in London, please also share your ideas on how to brighten up your local area, you could win a £200 Love2shop voucher. To make our lives easier Please do state where in the World you're from when posting Grin

Need inspiration? Visit //www.toyotapositive.com for some uplifting and entertaining stories of people spreading positivity.

Please note if your idea is selected as a winning entry, your day with the Prius Plug-In Hybrid will be filmed and/or photographed and may be used in various marketing material, so please only post if you're happy to do this.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Here, have the online definition of 'prize'. Note the idea that it is something of great value that is worth struggling to achieve.

Definition of prize
noun
1a thing given as a reward to the winner of a competition or in recognition of an outstanding achievement:
her invention won first prize in a national contest
a thing, especially an amount of money or a valuable object, that can be won in a game of chance:
the star prize in the charity raffle
[as modifier]:
prize money
something of great value that is worth struggling to achieve:
the prize will be victory in the general election
2chiefly historical an enemy ship captured during the course of naval warfare:
the sloop had been taken as a prize
[ late Middle English: from Old French prise 'taking, booty', from prendre 'take']

The prize is a day in a Toyota Prius? I'm just checking that I've properly understood.

I live in Milton Keynes which is famous for its roundabouts so I'd wrap a few of them up with a big ribbon (probably made out of bolts of brightly coloured fabric given the sizing) and bow to make them look like big presents and make people smile as they drive past.

And then at rush hour I'd hand out party bags to everybody stuck in the traffic waiting to go around them - with old fashioned party bag stuff in like a slice of cake, a balloon (one of those rocket ones that is very long and thin that you blow up and let go and they whizz around the room with a long squeal), a sherbet dibdab and a silly toy like a little wind up robot or a stress busting cow or a pop up monster.

Oh and a toy prius car of course!

I would saw the roof off the Toyota, fill it with compost and make it into a community vegetable patch.

I live in North Yorks.

North West

How about driving past old peoples homes, hospitals, bus stops etc giving out flowers and cake. The donators should be dressed as super-heroes, of course!

Buy a Portable car freezer, fill it with ice-cream, drive around and hand it out to everyone in town Grin

I live on derby and most people around my area don't really talk to each other etc but every important day eg jubilee royal wedding we have a street party it makes everyone smile we have loads of people from all different streets around our area come and join in our celebrations and all the neighbors club together doing food, music etc I would do that as it has been a great way to meet new people around our local area and everyone that joins in is smiling for weeks after and still talking about it. The 1st one that I joined in I had been in the area for about 6 months and didn't know anyone. By that day I knew nearly all the neighbors on my very large street plus alot of neighbors on other streets around the area too. The best way to make anyone smile is to have friends, and a fantastic day that the whole family can enjoy together.

I would hold a Mad Hatters Tea Party in the Town centre and ask everyone let the children dress up as characters from the book. I am sure that would be fun and everyone could take part.

I'm in West Yorkshire

Lots of people can't afford to holiday away fromhome so:-

I'd rebuild the open air swimming pool in the local park or at least the children's paddling pool.

Make a giant sand pit with buckets and spades and old fashioned striped for the adults to sit on.

Put rowing boats on the lake to hire for a nominal fee.

Create a 'jumping water' area.

Have a games area with croquet, chess and giant jenga.

Turn some of the bushes into animal sculptures!

I would need loads of cars to give to support groups where members and school children could decorate and.have a canival in Rotherham town centre. With prizes for best float, best stand, best dancer and a king and queen who get voted for by the twon on how they help the communaty.

I would deliever leaflets inviteing people to take part in a bake off or food contest and share the food with the twon and food banks. I would invite bands and musisans to take part in a talent contest and off people free music lessons.

I would invite Rotheram College of Art to show students work so free hair does, free mending or repairs or student hold letchers on their subjects for the town.

Then at night i would delieve an out door screan and have a movie night and hand out free popcorn.

I'm in Manchester and I would go to the children's hospital and see who is getting discharged and offer them a lift home. You never know when you are going to get out of hospital and arranging lifts is a nightmare. I would also ensure that all children get a free car shaped balloon!!

As I understand it, the Toyota Prius is extremely quiet, so my idea is to fill the car with elderly people with dementia. We're based in the Thames Valley where there is a pioneering group called Singing for the Brain which helps stimulate people with dementia through the power of music and song. We'd get some members together in the Prius, crank up the stereo, wind the windows down and serenade the people of the town, giving the bad boys playing their drum and bass a run for their money!

I'd turn the local town square into a giant games area with hula hoops, chalk for drawing hopscotch on the floor, giant chess sets, skittles, noughts and crosses.
Every one is too serious and needs something to help them have fun.

I would use the Prius to go to a party wholesaler and buy lots of paper plates, cups, table cloths and loads and loads of bunting. Then I would go to a caterer and buy lots of sandwiches, cakes, tea and fizzy pop.

I would set up tables in the high street (fortunately pedestrianised!) and invite local support groups eg Stroke Club, playgroups, etc to an impromptu street party. There would be music and entertainers for the children (but not clowns - I hate clowns). I would use the Prius to chauffeur people to the party who otherwise couldn't get there and take them home with a smile on their face.
I am in the East Midlands.

I was reading the latest on this thread, and thinking how cheesy it is, but kinda nice... and it struck me that Cheese Is Nice.

So as well as the campfire idea I already posted, I would amble round giving out CHEESE. I would steal all the cheesy puns from that thread the other day and quote them as I give away the cheese.

Not in London, sorry.

I would love to brighten up my town by firstly offering a ring and ride to anyone needing it in the morning and give them a lift to the shops/errands etc.

Then I would fill the car with flowers and hand one out to everyone who walks past with a smile on their face, or anyone who looks as though they need something to make them smile.
