Supportive chair for ten-month-old

Hello everyone,

Please could I ask for recommendations?

My DS is almost ten months and has a very rare genetic condition that means he is hypotonic and still not sitting independently (though on the way!). He has a Tiny Love rocker he loves (with lights and dangly toys) but he is now outgrowing it very fast.

His physio has recommended a tumbleform chair but we are awaiting referrals to disability services and OT and can't get any special equipment via them for a while (the diagnosis is very new). We can't afford one ourselves.

Can anyone recommend a supportive chair that might help until we can sort the tumbleform? Something that allows him to be upright or reclined would be ideal (he gets tired sitting, and many of the toddler-sized chairs will just exhaust him due to less support and a very straight back).

Thank you ever so much in advance.

Push for quicker referrals. There are other options such as playpak and lecky early activity system (both aimed at babies/very young DC) or a special tomato sitter or P-pod (both come in lots of sizes but the smallest size of both could work spending on DS’s size), but they aren’t cheaper than a tumbleform chair so looking at other new seating options probably won’t be helpful. However, they all come up regularly second hand. You could also look at charities.

Something like this onmight suit your needs while you are waiting for services to kick in. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326057118613?itmmeta=01HSYJWDVCYM0J0YB727FMQ1JC&hash=item4bea84cb95:g:aFsAAOSwywdl6hjR&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HtxHYQ3LPL86mB7%2BoNE2CoUAn0WodR7N0Ogmm39wtsi6NDIdTVktHZO%2FN6XIugo3kV1Pdx1ToB52tvCX933O3FzZ0CHrWif7PVG3GzkO8SJ6%2B2p4%2Bb2ZGM4qq1GxD6KzMrRmiARevJKS%2F802DBbWTkPdngGEs5LSjWabew2AUFyr60pMaajNycooMSngng8W2TvwhfCxVI2u5rMZT%2FsKxzY%2FmMyTAV1PRng2ZWBQMK7Ds9O0CqLNgcIXVxd1Uciux%2B3q9gi1bAXVbOd1Q7sUzEB5Ydv08ZN9XxTQR%2Fk14Ur%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-Td8dLPYw
(sorry about the long link!)
My DS2 was hypotonic and we used a bucket seat pushchair with towels either side rolled up, to support him, til the OTs got involved.
A small tumbleform would also be good

Thank you, both. Am off to haunt eBay!

I have called the health visitor to push on the referrals and I will speak to our consultant in a couple of weeks too in case she can do anything further.

It doesn't help that we have referrals coming out of our ears (nine disciplines at last count) and trying to keep track of who is responsible for getting us each type of help is really tough 😒I had hoped our private physio could refer us but she suggested the health visitor, who suggested the OT and NHS physio (for whom we are still on the waiting list).

If you are anywhere near Bristol check out Gympanzees’ website. They have a lending library full of toys and OT equipment, including sitting aids. They may have something suitable. You can borrow several items at once for four weeks at a time for free, but if you aren’t local you’d have to pick it up and drop it off.
