Submitting a parental request for an EHCP

Son's just been referred to the ASD pathway recently, he's 3 and non speaking with other developmental delays. Originally his early years setting was all for doing one this term, until they lost some staff and so unfortunately with admin spread thinly, my request for those who are trained in doing EHCNA's to do one, so far has got nowhere.
I've been informed that our LA is massively failing on meeting the EDPsych deadlines for EHCNA by other parents (like 40 weeks waits rather than 20 weeks), so now I'm realising I've been a bit of an idiot in not sorting this sooner considering he's due to go to school September 2025.

So what i'm asking, is what do I need to be doing/ where should I be looking at for templates, examples etc so that I can make sure I can be putting in the best parental request possible asap, so I don't lose any more time?

On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use to request an EHCNA.

The timescales are statutory timescales. LAs often try to get away with not sticking to them, but if they breach the timescales you can enforce them, via judicial review if necessary.

Our LA has their own form for parental requests, I ll check it against ISPEAs model letters now, thank you :)

You don’t have to use the LA’s form. The IPSEA model letter is sufficient to trigger the request.

I recently requested an EHCNA and used the LA form. I also wrote an overview of needs and attached reports plus supporting documentation from nursery.

Funnily enough, I’ve also been told
my LA are taking 40 weeks. My DD is also starting school in Sep 2025.
