Oh it’s Goose & Carrot Pub! Pub being important as it is a virtual public house that we can all go to when needed.

Thanks for new thread Red

Its a bit strange with family life, DD at the same age withdrew and that was bittersweet as you saw her becoming independent, gaining friends and a life with them but losing some of the lovely family outings. Whereas DS is at the age he should be getting independent so losing the family stuff I was expecting some of but its just sad to not see that replaced with anything more than gaming, food and long baths. But it seems he's getting back to making food and drink using microwave and toaster and personal care is a lot better and he's opening things you get so hoping interaction will come before too long.

I had a friend get in touch and suggest meeting at our house and I don't know whether to do that at our house or not as DS gets anxious with people in the house and hides (not a huge fan myself either, like home for us, but OK with me) but DS would be very interested in what this man does for a living as he works in politics with a former PM and DS was obsessed with that. Discussed with DH and he said to go out but I think maybe we could just go upstairs then DS would still feel relaxed downstairs and maybe could hear some conversation. When I was discussing with DH I could hear DS coming out into the kitchen so not sure if he was eavesdropping or just desperate for a hot cross bun or both. 😂He went through a phase of pretending his was various PMs, Einstein or a fish and had a Trump obsession. Though did say at school he was officially Labour but a secret Conservative at heart.

Thanks @RedRoseGarden

That is tricky @Penguinsa . I don't generally have people in the house because the girls regard it as their safe space.

Thanks for the new thread Red.
penguinsa It is difficult. I would usually avoid having anyone that the dcs don't already know well in the house if possible but if you think ds might be interested in the conversation it changes things. It is someone you could easily say 'lets go out' to if it is clear ds isn't happy?

Thanks DS has met him before but its been quite a while since I have met up with him - not sure when, he is almost certainly asd and will tell me exact date. 😂Pre 2020 I think. He may not be the easiest person to move as he doesn't take subtle hints. He clearly wants to meet here as it says I can come to your house, he's never been here before. DS only goes downstairs in the house so if we meet upstairs that probably wouldn't bother DS but he also may not hear any conversation. Downstairs DS will shut himself in downstairs bathroom which blocks the guest bathroom and will mean DS won't venture into kitchen or living room. Upstairs DS will likely base himself with ipads etc in bathroom downstairs but may wander around downstairs and help himself to drinks, use microwave, go in living room which is better. And also its better re bathrooms I think if we are upstairs. DS has tolerated people in the house (apart from cahms / teachers etc), avoids them but just games - DH had a friend in the other day and we've had people in to do work and sometimes with them he even stayed in the living room. But since November when we've not really had anyone other than one DH friend he's improved so he seems to improve without people and stall with people. He is fascinated by the topics though and when I spoke to him in hospital his eyes you could see movements in. And at the end he also laughed at my Trump jokes though when staff tried he didn't laugh and they said it must have been the way I tell them. 😂

It's difficult as we want to reintegrate him with people but don't want to stop his other progress. Though I myself also aren't that keen in people in the house as it will need to be immaculate, its pretty good atm but meh. Will see what he replies, first one I sent back said not here and then second one said maybe here actually. I could also try asking DS, I won't get a response unless its very negative.

DH has transferred the PIP this month which is good so I can get things for DS. I ordered a chalk board and pens for it and lots of nice socks. Just hope DD doesn't take the socks. I think DS is calming towards the idea of people though as when we asked about his primary friend a while back he banged no and now he just looks down. Its still like a no but like he's considering it but wants to be better before he sees people.

Thanks @RedRoseGarden.

DS1 finally had his MRI today. All went well. Got to wait for the results. He had his ears micro-suctioned, too. Because it was rearranged twice the dentist wasn’t able to do an examination and clean.

I find the balance of allowing people in the house difficult. DS1 would prefer not to have others in the house. DS2 craves social interaction and enjoys having friends round. I prefer having DS2 and friends here where I can keep an eye on DS2’s risk taking behaviour. DS1 doesn't have to see them and we compromise by not allowing friends upstairs, but sometimes it feels like no-one’s needs are met. Then there are professionals and it isn’t possible to not have them in the house.

Glad you got the MRI done. I hope the results are useful and you don't have to wait too long.

Very pleased the MRI got done.

I find it too stressful having people here. Plus, I'd have to clean and stuff...

@Headfirstintothewild pity about the teeth but great that mri is done. I hate people coming to the house too. Ds is always unsettled and it adds to the impact of anything negative.

Can anyone give Antibiotics advice - we took DD to MIU this morning who confirmed she needs ABios for nailbed infection but she’s unable to swallow pills very sensory autistic, let alone 4x a day, they couldn’t prescribe anything else. Been told to phone GP first thing Monday morn to ask for an alternative ABio one a day liquid option does this exist?

Report
Lougle · 03/03/2024 11:20

What is the name of the antibiotic she was prescribed?

Report
Headfirstintothewild · 03/03/2024 11:22

@SpringSprungSplash there are some once daily antibiotics that come in liquid form but I’m not sure if any suitable for nail bed infections. Azithromycin might be. Wouldn’t be the first line choice though. I presume you have Flucloxacillin ? - the liquid version is awful but some DC tolerate different brands better.

SpringSprungSplash · 03/03/2024 12:31

Thanks. They offered amoxicillin liquid the banana yellow one or tablets 4x a day but she just wouldn’t be able to take it. We struggle to even get calpol in. She just sat for half hour holding one tic-tac berry flavour (whilst I ignored her cooking), trying desperately to practice swallowing it with a drink but got herself worked up into horrible state she couldn’t manage it. Even her sister tried fo reassure her it’s ok, she had last year the 4x day antibiotics and told her it’s ok etc. but she just can’t get over this mental block.

We’ve been soaking her finger in dettol twice a day for last 4-5d but it was getting worse not better hence the miu trip.

Glad MRI is done.

Thanks for all the advice on house visit, thought I would be alone in being wary about people in the house but reassuring its not just me. I am awaiting reply and will see then.

Antibiotics only known that banana one. You can cut them into smaller pieces but not sure that will help that much.

We went for a couple of walks at a historic house then NT place yesterday and told DS when we were leaving had put the North Face clothes out and trainers for him and said he could take a bath and wear them if he wanted and came back to find him wearing the NF clothes. Not the trainers but that might just be as he just goes round house.

Report
Headfirstintothewild · 03/03/2024 13:11

@Penguinsa glad the clothes were a hit.

@SpringSprungSplash ah I wondered if you would have flucloxacillin because that is typically the first line option for nail bed infections. Has DD tried taking practicing taking the tic-tac in something else? Or even something smaller than a tic tax to start with.

Hmm think we’ve just going to have to keep practicing with the swallowing I just feel at a loss on how to help her. We keep very calm, encouraging but pressure off she just gets herself in a complete and utter tizz. Her ridigity of thought is like a huge barrier. I tried 6mths ago with tic-Tacs when she was refusing caplpol & feeling utterly rotten had a high temperature but she just couldn’t take calpol or 1/4 of paracetamol or crusted paracetamol on a tsp with a drink despite understanding it would help her to feel better 😔.

Report
SpringSprungSplash · 03/03/2024 14:08

We didn’t even have calpol growing up it was just a crushed pill on a spoon with ribena & biscuit job done. How did my mum manage it yet we can’t

Report
Lougle · 03/03/2024 14:11

Will she eat bread or cookie dough? Sometimes the difference between liquids and solids is harder to cope with, so surrounding the pill with a squishy but firm food can help the swallowing process.
