DLA mobility component??

Hello all
I couldn’t find this information online and wondered whether someone had recent experience or knowledge…

My sons is 4 and in receipt of middle rate DLA for the last year. He is soon turning 5 and I believe he is eligible for the lower rate mobility component.

Can I apply specifically for the mobility rate aspect or do I absolutely need to repeat the whole entire DLA application (for both care and mobility) from scratch? I only did this in Feb last year and the thought of repeating it already is… 🤯

Also do I wait until after he is 5 or can I apply before his birthday.

You can apply before 5 but the low rate mobility component won’t be paid until 5. You should be invited to apply a few months before 5. If you haven’t received a letter, call up.

If care needs haven’t changed and you have a form which has a box you can tick to say care needs haven’t changed, you can tick that. But be aware the whole award can go up as well as down.
