DS(6) writing support - too early for a laptop?

ds teacher wrote evidence for his statement application. I'm shocked to discover ds won't write. I know he can form letters and spellings take forever to him to to do with lots of throwing things. At school it's a flat out refusal to write. Will not do written tests or copy work.

Is it too early to ask for him to have a laptop or writing aid? I'm rewriting part 3 of provisional statement so it's a good time to ask.

Thank. Iv only discovered lots of his issues since receiving professionals evidence with proposed statement. School are very uncommunicative and always try to put best spin on things - only ever mentioned his behavioural meltdowns. Not that he refuses to write!

My ds got a laptop for 'extended' writing when he was 6 (his TA sometimes scribes too). He also has a writing slope and pencil grips (and OT). We also used to use letter stamps sometimes for doing spelling homework.

Hello - I have just had an EHCP finalised for my DS. He has hypermobility and low muscle tone. We have included provision of writing aids/iPad/ laptop for extended writing tasks. Initially OT wanted it for anything over 2 sentences but I still want some writing help at school too. Once he has done 6 months of OT to strengthen we are hoping to have touchtyping lessons too. At the moment he can't isolate his fingers sufficiently to do this.
