As the title suggests, if you need help or advice or just want to let off steam about the EHCP process feel free to get your thoughts down on here.

As usual we will all support each other and give whatever advice we can, and if we don't know the answers we'll try and find out for you or point you in the right direction.

We were one of the first in our county to change to an EHCP from statement. I prefer it. We've been through transition to secondary on it so changed the named school and it went very smoothly.

However as a new applicaation without school action and school action plus for my youngest, of three, i think the assessment process is going to be much, much, harder than for DS who had school action plus and 1-1 from 2.5. For my youngest DD in yr R, under the child development centre psychologist querry Autism, theres no support entitlement even with SALT, Audiology, ocupational therapy etc referals and numerous reports.

The problem with SOS!SEN workshops is being able to get to one and back the same day, and being able to take time off of work.

I think they have them at weekends.

What would happen if at a yr11 AR a FE college is named but a child is later not accepted onto the course because of not gaining high enough results at GCSE level.

If the college is named in the EHCP then they have to take the child. However, they don't necessarily have to accept him or her onto the course they want.

Yes, quite a few of the SOSSEN workshops are on Saturdays. I did one several years ago , before first applying for a statement and found it extremely useful.

Anyhow marking my place. We are currently in limbo. Still have statement, LA refusing to amend, based on EHC transfer happening 'soon'. Sent Mencap bod to complete section A of EHC a year ago!

Can't be bothered to appeal refusal to amend statement, as I will probably have to appeal EHC or at least go through the motions to get them to back down!

Currently giving myself a crash course in EHC process! Happy to share any links/info I come across Smile

Augusta that's what is worrying me at the moment, DS wants to do a particular course but is not likely to get a grade 4 ( new GCSE grading system) in maths and English next year and so will not get on the course, the college have courses at entry level 1 and 2, but they are more classroom based (and focus on functional skills) than practical work based and don't really match DS' idea of what he wants iyswim.

So in a nutshell the LA have not carried out a needs assessment, they have not completed the EHCP transfer within the statutory 14 weeks and I can't do anything about it. DS' education is suffering and will continue to do so.

claw thanks for the link.

We can't put in an appeal because we don't have a final EHCP, all we can do and have done is complain and keep escalating the complaint until somebody sits up and takes notice, this is the advice given by SOS!SEN.

Yes the transfer review took place a year ago, it is a shambles.

Enter I remember you saying they haven't carried out a needs assessment? (Or maybe I'm getting it confused with someone else!)

Following, Dd3 was issued with probably the last statement on earth in Sept 2015!

She is meant to be going into yr9 in September which I believe is a transition yr! I hope theyjust leave us alone really, other than the fact that we would stand a very good chance of getting a personal budget for home ed if she had an EHCP!

Enter I would be interested to know what sensos advice was as to them not following timescales and complaining, official complaint etc? And about their refusal to carry out an needs assessment? If you have time later, much appreciated.

Hello!

Adding myself here.

I'm just going through appealing refusal to assess. I've been told threshold is 'may' have Sen. Well DS does. That's not in question - even la admitted to that on letter. They said though that school can meet them through resources (despite no progress and regression in some areas) and that issue is me disagreeing with school.
Grrr. What a headache!

enter I'm amazed it's still going on for you. I know they are crap but current situation is beyond rediculous.

zzzz early AR sounds ideal. It's awful when schools are 'this is what we do and your DC will fit into that rather than what does your DC ned and how can we meet that?'

Joining the "fun". Youare we recently had refusal to assess too as needs could be met at "Sen support". Complete tripe. We refused mediation, filed tribunal appeal docs and in the meantime asked LA for their own "dispute resolution" process to try to engage them on the side. Apparently they should all have this. 3 days before a scheduled meeting they have caved and agreed to assess. Obviously small matter of them agreeing to issue plan now.... But at least we are further on. Our case manager is so awful that every time I mention her name to any other LA/NHS professional they all go quiet..... The whole process makes me want to turn to drink!

Oh sausage that sounds hopeful.
I'll ask about resolution once I've filed and see what they say. I could do this once I have new OT and EP report which will make it quicker than the 6 months appeal will take. If they still refuse it least I won't have lost time.

I don't think it is, is it? They seem to advocate threatening judicial review, and in fact as I understand it they will do the pre-action letter for you.

We are now on about week 29 of a transfer of statement to EHC and the LA EP will finally assess my daughter next week. The LA were not prepared to get any new reports but have now agreed they are needed. The OT, SALT and Physio and social care are done but I am sure there will be a giant cock up of the next draft.

The head of service is convinced provision is matched to outcomes Confused and not needs despite me explaining at length and reading from the code.

Don't worry if you'd rather not, thats fine,!i understand.

I was interested just in case I experienced the same problem. I can always phone sensos myself if I do encounter the same problem, instead of picking your brain! Smile

I don't mind but it's quite long and complicated, you don't have to say your exact location, county will do fine, I just don't want to out myself any more than I really have to Wink. Only a few people know exactly what is going on but many people know some of it and will be able to put 2 & 2 together...
