Slimming World

Is it possible to lose 11 stone with Slimming World Online while on an antipsychotic?

Due to my work hours and home location, I cannot get to a Slimming World group meeting on a regular basis. I did SW about 7 years ago and lost about 4 stone. However due to overeating and weight gain as side effects of being prescribed anti-psychotics, I have ballooned and now need to lose at least 11 stone to be a healthy weight for my height. When I get home from work, I am so tired that I end up just ordering takeaways and throughout the day, I just eat fruit and tea with breakfast pastries. How do people find the time and energy to meal plan and exercise?

I need to lose around 6-7 stones. I do slimming world not I go to a group but I don't always stay after being weighed. I find it patronizing. If you sign up online you will have access to the app and it tells you all the free foods and syns etc super helpful. I've been doing it six weeks and 1 stone down. I don't always meal plan, I just make sure I dont buy rubbish and only buy the lean meats, and "free foods". And I don't always cook from scratch either. Granted I have more.rime.because I'm a SAHM. Excercise isn't compulsory on slimming world but just hoping your steps intake will help. I aim for 10k steps every day now and seems to be working.

Are you still on the anti-psychotic? If so you might be better off posting in mental health as I'd be surprised if anyone coming onto this topic to talk about Slimming World knew about anti-psychotics and the side effects around eating. But otherwise good luck and I hope SW suits you.

I certainly don't know much about anti-psychotics, but I do know that weight gain is a very common side effect. It might be worth doing two things at the same time- talking with whoever prescribed the anti-psychotic (so discuss this side effect), not necessarily to come off it but they might have some options or opinions on how to cope with this and secondly, think about making just some small changes to stop the continuing weight gain now- I have a feeling you might work somewhere like the NHS or somewhere with access to those pastries all day! I completely get the problem of lack of energy, I also fight with this myself in the evenings and also admit defeat and get a take-away from time to time, but how about starting back on just one or two of the techniques you used with SW last time, like remembering what breakfast worked for you.

Remember that it's better to start tomorrow than just give up because it seems too big a challenge- just accept that it won't be all perfect from day one, you might say have a good breakfast replacement, but struggle with the evening meal, but it will all help, one habit and one step at a time.

What antipsychotic are you on? I’ve been on Quetiapine for 4 years now and definitely gained weight due to this 😞 it’s of the main side effects!!!! I didn’t know that for ages and I tried to stop taking them, but the withdrawals are absolute hell! I have no idea about SW though, just saw your post and thought yep, antipsychotics are the worst x but I ended up finding a workout routine online and stuck to that, as well as swapping my sweet cravings for fruits like melon, grapes etc x good luck!!! X

Its well documented that antipsychotics cause weight gain

Can you lose weight with SW when on them I have no idea.

However in my group we have a lady just joined us in January, who did a year online and never lost a pound - well se did, but kept gaining it back, since January she has lost a stone - by coming to group and staying . She said that doing it alone online was a waste of money - FOR HER.

I was on anti depressents when I started my journey and I too was exhausted after a day in work and it took me a while to get into the habit of meal planning and actually cooking healthy meals. TBH the evening meals werent the big problem it was the daytimes at work or home alone which were my problem - bread was easy.

Why not pop along to your local group and meet the consultant and have a chat? See what experience she has with members who have medication issues. Theres no charge for going along and having a chat and a good consultant will spend time with you before signing you up
