Under active thyroid and SW?

I have under active thyroid and am really struggling to shift excess weight -maybe completely unconnected and just age related as I'm 54 post menopausal . Thinking of trying SW - just wondering if anyone has any experience to help me work out whether this is a good plan for me? I'm fed up of starting diet doing a few weeks hardcore and then staying exactly the bloody same weight- argh!!!!!
I m doing couch to 5k slowly as well so get some but not much exercise.

I recon it's worth a go if you can see it changing your eating habits

I don’t have an underachiever thyroid, but have PCOS which is insulin resistant, so turns carbs into fat so much quicker than normal, and doing SW has so far worked for me, I’ve lost 7 stone, although the last stone was so hard.

My friend joined just after me this year and has done well. She said her medication has it all under control at the moment and it’s probably why it’s working well for her.

How is your thyroid at the moment?

Thanks for your replies and encouragement and WOW ALemony- amazing achievement!
I probably need to lose about 3-4 stones to get into healthy range. I'm completely baffled by my thyroid issue and have no real idea if it's under control . I am on 50mcg of levothyroxine now but have gone up to 150mcg in the past but it made me super tense and snappy so I stopped taking it which was probably a bit stupid . Dr recommended I restart at 50mcg which is where I am now . GP is fairly rubbish as I never see same one twice and have no continuity and they don't check my levels at all unless I initiate it by requesting a review. I'm trying to move practice at the mo.
I don't know really if it makes a difference to dieting - could be a bit of " I've got big bones" cop out but I know in the past I have been quite a successful dieter but am really struggling these days but I do get disheartened if I have been 'good' and nothing to show for it on the scales. But I have never tried SW so will give it a go. Can not face squidging into my clothes any longer!!

Definitely give it a go, no harm done if it doesn’t work. It’s really easy to get your head round, and you don’t need to weigh anything.

Are you on levotthyrozine

If you are on the correct dose than there should be no weight gain whatsoever as it simply replaces the missing hormone.

All dependent on you being on the correct dose and your levels at a good place.

Thx for further thoughts . Conflicting advice from medics re thyroxine levels but good to know it should not affect weight loss - have found a class starting on Tuesday so will give it my best shot. Thx again all .

As a result of sudden weight gain I had rejoined slimming world. Was 100% on plan and the weight wouldn’t shift - turns out my thyroid was under active. Started the levothyroxine and the weight came back off whilst doing slimming world. I’d go back to docs first to get your medication checked cos if you aren’t on the right dose it will be super hard to loose weight.

Hi pipsqueak have you been on the thyroid uk website there are certsin foods that affect absorption like soya and undercooked sprouts there are more but those two seem to have stuck in my head for some reason. Also are you taking your thyroxine half an hour before you eat or drink anything. Good luck with SW hun. Xx
