I'm fat, frumpy and horrible and I NEED to change! I've tried weight watchers, but since they've changed the plan it just doesn't work for me at all. I've actually gained 7.5lbs doing it for the past 6 months Hmm I've never understood slimming world with all the lingo - hexA and B and syns and all, and as it's super expensive to join online I'm reluctant in case i just don't 'get' it! Can anyone please help? I have a bridesmaids dress to wear in 10 months time and as I am right now I don't even want to go to the wedding! Sad

I have been doing SW online for 4 and a half months and have lost 2 stone 11lbs. That covers a 2week holiday in the summer where I forgot about it and put on 5lbs!! I think it is a fabulous way to lose weight. Once you understand the plan it is not too hard to stick to it. Classes are hard to commit to but there are loads of resources online either at the SW site or elsewhere online. Stick with it because it does work.

If you use "AVIVA2016" it takes £35 off the online joining price, there's also a group on Facebook called Slimming World from home or something, for others who don't go to group. I don't go group because I think it's tedious and I'm not really one for group activities with strangers.

I've done the macaroni cheese from the SW website for the freezer, and I LOVE it. I'm usually super fussy with Mac and cheese! I usually have a small portion with a chicken breast cooked with Maggi seasoning on the side. I've also got SW lasagne in the freezer - interested to hear other ideas though!

I'm joining a class tonight. I've put it off for enough weeks Blush dreading it but I HAVE TO GO. I tried my first ever wedding dress on at the weekend and they'll look so beautiful if I can lose a few lbs!

Yay!!!! Well done you!! I'm 6lbs down, because I have been a saint all week. 😇

Are you hungry, though? Yesterday and today, I've had RAGING hunger pangs between 4--7pm. I've had to have porridge (HexB) before dinner because I was almost in pain, I was sooooo hungry.

Usually on diets, I get less hungry as the weeks go past.

Anyway, I really like the diet. :) But you def have to meal=plan; the one night this week I hadn't planned out, I was desperate. You can't snack on any convenience foods! Even a rice-cake has 1.5 syns. I actually like that about it, though... Less temptation.

Just checking back in to say 4lb down in the first week despite a few minor lapses (Pizza Express on Saturday, skipped the pizza but couldn't resist the breadsticks in the salad). Smile

Yes... Butter... And cheese... drool

Just found it, thanks. I think it will take a while to get it all set up with regular foods, I found the same with MFP. I wonderwhy they don't have it on the app.

I agree about bread leading to more bread, it also leads to butter and cheese, not a good combo for weight control!

The online diary is really useful. It's under the Weight Loss Planner link in the mobile-site sidebar. On the desktop site it's slightly more buried -- look under "my slimming world", or "weight loss tools"?

I'm not bothered about potatoes either! Or rice or pasta or cous cous. But DH is in love with potatoes - a Roosters advert is like an adult film for him. :)

I love love love bread but have found it surprisingly easy to cut it out. I think maybe because I'm so full of everything else.

IME, bread just leads to more bread - I can see why it's not allowed. It's so easy to eat, yet weirdly I satisfying, given how bulky it is.

I'm desperately missing bread. Not bothered about potatoes, we often go weeks without eating them.

I haven't found the online diary, I've been looking at the app and agree it's crap. I'm thinking I might log everything in MFP instead of SW then cancel SW at the end of three months when I've got the hang of it.

I'm not sure the online SW membership is really worth the money BUT it has a fantastic online food-diary but where you can add your Syns, etc, as you go along. It calculates it all for you.

The app is rubbish so I just pu a link to the SW Website on my phone's home screen and set it to "keep me logged in".

I wish there was more of a forum on the site - you can read other members' comments on the Success Stories pages, but you can't really chat. I also joined the Mini Mins site, but loads of those threads are dead.

I noticed there are a LOT of SW members on social media - Instagram, etc, is full of people posting photos of their meals. So I feel a bit less uncool now! Blush

I really like it so far. I need a diet where I can stuff my face. I can't do abstinence.

I joined the online SW last Wednesday, using the fantastic Aviva code that was posted on MN.

I spent Weds and Thursday reading the website, and bought a copy of the SW magazine. That was fantastic as the recipes looked amazing!

Friday morning, we had a power cut. I took that as A Sign that I should get off the internet/Netflix and be productive, so I spent an hour plotting our meals for the week using the magazine recipes, and drew up a (long!) shopping list and bought it all in Tesco.

I've been prepping and cooking ever since! :)

I'm really enjoying it so far. It was an expensive first shop, but cheaper than buying new clothes!

I've been weighing everyday (I always do), and so far I'm 7lbs down from my starting weight last Weds!

DH is really on board too. He loves the unlimited potatoes. :)

My DH and I need to get rid of some weight, and having read positive things on various threads went to a Slimming World meeting. It was dreadful. Everyone talked at the tops of their voices, took very little notice of the "leader" - it was totally patronising and pointless. And when they started talking about their "holibobs" - that was it. At the end of the meeting we told the lady who took the group it wasn't for us, thank you and left. I appreciate that other groups will be different, but never again!

Thank you so much for all your replies! To be honest I forgot about this thread as most of my MN threads get about 3 replies Blush I've read through them all and have taken it all on board. I think i need to get my fat ass to a class for the books and the run down on what to actually do. I may stick with classes, but we shall see! Thanks again :)

Signed up online using a discount code from another thread Smile. I felt quite inspired after the meeting this morning and have managed to eat a lot more healthily today than I have for a long time, so time to get going properly with it.

A quiz based on names of fish Grin! That sounds unbelievably cheesy!

Two conversations we had at group last week:
Consultant-oh no, so you had a bit of a gain this week. Do you know why?
Member-Yes, husband pissed me off so much I had 4 slices of toast with Nutella and a bottles of wine
Consultant- Ha! These things happen. Do you think he'll piss you off that much again this week???

Consultant-oh no, a gain this week. Do you know why?
Member- Yeah. I drank my own body weight in lager and had a kebab. Do the syns count if you throw them up in the morning?
Consultant- Yes.

I think we must be a but low rent!

I keep meaning to join sw, I went ww for a while but I do find the cheesiness hard, and when we had a quiz based on names of fish I was getting a bit hysterical. I also don't like 'syns' name, giving food a moral value. And I can't stick diets for long as I feel deprived, go off plan, then think ' why am I paying this woman £5 to tell me I've gained a lb' and get all feministy

I'd happily stay if time wasn't an issue, but it's just impossible for me on a Thursday morning.

The group is kind of important...but, if you weigh and leave that is your choice, they can't make you stay.

Report
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 15/09/2016 13:34

Well, I went. The consultant was nice and explained it all very well, but was insistent that you needed to go every week and that just getting weighed and leaving wasn't really how it works, group talk was the most important bit. There were masses of people there, so the group part didn't get started till about 45 mins in. I simply can't commit to that, I would have to miss too much work time so I left without signing up - the other sessions in my town are all at impossible times too.

However the system seemed really clear and easy to understand, so I think I will look into the online version.

Hi, I am one of only three men in my group - it surprises me that blokes seem to have an aversion to diet clubs. I joined in May, first weigh in was 17st 3lb. As of Monday I weigh 14st 7lb. I still have some way to go but I am happy with the weight loss. SW does work well, especially if you are doing it with your partner. The recipes are pretty tasty, we had curry last night. If you really like your meat then this diet will work well!
