12 month old sleeping 16 hours at night

is this normal? he is going to bed at 5pm and sleeping through til 8:30 - 9am.

DD has 12 hours at night and an average of four - five during the day, so about the same. She's 13 months old and has always needed her sleep; the inly thing she really cries for is to go to bed when she's tired.

if he has only 12 hours at night then he sleeps much more in the day. will have at least 2 2 hour naps and possibly one of about an hour about 4 or 5pm.

hmmm. that does sound like a lot. is he alert during the day? is he 'telling' you he needs that much sleep? what happens if he has, say 12 hours at night?

he has about 1 - 1hr 30 mins in the day.

does he sleep in the day? does he seem happy and alert, developing fine?

my dd sleeps 14 hours at night, 6.30 to 8.30, and has a half hour midday. this does seem a lot compared to her friends, but then they seem to sleep for an hour or two in the day.
