Giphy appearing on threads?

SonyaBoot · 15/03/2024 11:50

Just noticed the third one this week.
Normal thread, then a random gif appears on a post. Poster doesn't seem to know where it came from.
I have tried to find the last one but can't remember which thread it was on. Will come back if it happens again.

Ive noticed the increase in stupid GIFs too, are they accidental? I hope so, a pet peeve of mine, can't people use their words

I've seen a few too. They appear entirely accidental, rather than an attempt to amplify or illustrate the poster's point, because the ones I've seen are totally random and unconnected to the subject of the pot. An inadvertent keyboard shortcut, perhaps?

There is an 'Add GIF' button on the web version of Mumsnet. People can accidentally click it and end up with a GIF in their post.

I find moving adverts hard to cope with but reluctantly accept that they fund the site. But to deliberately give users the option to add stupid moving gifs is unacceptable imo. They take my eye from the text and I find it incredibly hard to concentrate on what I'm reading.

Please get rid of them!

Hi @SonyaBoot if this happens again can you please grab the URL for the thread so we can take a closer look? A screenshot would be great, too, if possible. Can you also let us know which device/browser and version of the site you're using.

Thanks in advance.

I am using DuckDuckGo Win 10. Laptop. Getting the URL won't be easy due to the browser privacy but will try to get it from Chrome.
