Highlighting OP's posts through the thread

Dear MNHQ - I know we already have the option to do this through customising our preferences, but since a lot of people don't know that, would it be do-able to have it so that the OP's posts are automatically highlighted throughout the threads they start?

That way everyone would be able to see updates, "dripfeeds"/additional info, responses from the OP etc. much more easily and it might save a lot of the inappropriate responses from people who don't RTFT.

Whaddya think?

Not impressed with the lack of response about this, tbh. I know you've had plenty of other stuff to deal with but I expected better from you. [disappointed]

Dear MNHQ - haven't heard anything about this idea, any update? Is it possible? Can it be done, please?
Thanks
(have reported this post just to highlight it to you in a shockingly mememe fashion)

Definitely needed on the app.

Tribpot - if the OP highlighting carried on when a poster namechanges, it could 'out' someone who had namechanged for a sensitive thread - anyone who saw both threads would realise who they were..

The highlight own posts does carry on through namechanges - I have at least 3 different names on the first Empty Nest thread and they are all highlighted (not sock puppetting, by the way, it's just that the thread lasted 7 years...)

greenhill rest your finger on the word (or at re beginning of the section you want to c & p) for a few secs- you should then see some options appear: select, select all, paste. Tap select and the word will appear between blue markers. Rest your finger on a marker and drag it to select the entire section you want to c & p. Then you'll get the option to cut, copy etc. Tap the relevant option. Then tap where you want to paste the copied section. You can also love the cursor in this way (eg to correct one letter rather than retyping the word): a little thing like a magnifying glass will appear with the cursor in it.

Tallulah mobile has yours and op's posts highlighted.

The irony is that I like the simple look of the app and in general I think it works quite well, but it's clearly missing key features from the website! I wonder if you can highlight your/OP posts on the mobile site? Hmm..

Yes please

I think it may be a technical error on my part Blush

How come you can't c & p on the iPad? I use mobile on my iPod touch and I can c & p fine.

How irritating that must be tallulah and horatio I rarely hear positive comments about the app, I use the desktop on safari, the only problem is inability to cut and paste on the iPad.

Agreed - would be a very useful default.

Btw, never understood why the highlighting stops if the OP changes username during the thread, isn't it based on the user's ID rather than just a comparison of the name text?

Good idea. I tried the app again the other day and it didn't do this and also my antenatal thread didn't appear in TIO so I deleted the app in disgust Grin.

Greenhill, lots of us realise you CAN do it, but it doesn't work on the app Sad

Report
greenhill · 29/09/2013 13:05

It's an excellent suggestion.
It will be especially useful in AIBU, for all of those who haven't realised that they can customise their own posts and the OP's (mine are green, the op's are pink).
