Bromley High Vs Farringtons

My DD has been offered a place at both Bromley High School and Farringtons. We like both schools equally for different reasons. She also passed the Kent 11+ and is awaiting school offers next week. I get the impression BH is more academic than Farringtons but the extra curricula activities on offer at Farringtons are very appealing. We have found Farringtons to be much more accommodating and approachable but we also feel an all girls school would suit her.

Any insights into the experiences of others would be much appreciated.

Farringtons is a terrible school. The best thing we have done was to leave that school. They nearly destroyed my son’s confidence and self esteem, he was bullied and no one cared.
He was assessed by the psychiatrist who agreed he needed counselling due to everything that happened in that school. He used to often say that the Head hates him.
Me and my husband both work in private schools, one part of GDST and we were shocked by what we have found in Farringtons.
I would strongly encourage anyone to avoid this school.
Farringtons school is more accommodating perhaps because there are so many children leaving the school and they are desperate to fill spaces or they will be in financial difficulties very soon.
Feel free to message me if you wish and I can send you the link to see conversations of parents talking Farringtons. It really is shocking.

Farringtons has quite a high level of SEN for an independent school. It has a lot of pupils who didn't get into other (better) schools, because they didn’t pass the entrance exams. I’d go for Bromley High if your daughter is academic.

We had to make the same choice. Chose Farringtons and delighted we did. My daughter is thriving, being given huge amounts of opportunities to develop self confidence which is possible in a small school and has lovely friends. I find it caters well for all abilities.

We also had that choice. my DD is also very able and is thriving at Farringtons. She passed all the 11-plus tests. It is also as you say good for cross-curricular activities and I would say it is a well-rounded experience. Rather than just pushing the academic subjects. It also depends on whether you want a girl's school or mixed. Our experience has been positive.

Ex-teacher from Farringtons here - avoid it like the plague. They're excellent at putting on a good show on open days and looking good but it's all show and no substance. Senior management are a liability and staff morale is at an all-time low. Several staff have left since I did 3 years ago all because of the same reason - management. Complaints aren't dealt with. Bullying isn't dealt with, the school lets kids get away with more than they should because they're desperate to keep the money from the tuition fees. Bromley High is so much better. Got several ex-students who went there from Farringtons and are thriving. All staff who have left have thrived in our new places too. Go for BH.

Although I am sorry that you were unhappy with your experience of working there. From a parent’s perspective, the school you describe is so far from the school we are currently experiencing - I’m really surprised. My daughter has had a huge number of opportunities since she joined in September, her confidence has soared and she is genuinely very happy there.

I'm genuinely really really glad your daughter is happy there and I really hope it continues in the long-run. I know there are some really wonderful teachers there so hopefully they will stay and continue to make your daughter's experience good. Just be wary of the leadership team there :)

You have been very fortunate so far, this is how it was for us to begin with but two years later my son needed counselling to recover.
You still have a long journey there, I hope your daughter continues to be happy throughout her stay there.

That’s interesting. I’ve heard staff morale is terrible & a number of staff are looking to leave

Including me, I know of 4 who have definitely all left for the same reason, because of the same person. From chats with staff who are still there, it sounds like there will be more to follow. It's sad - it used to be such a lovely place :(

Me too! Absolutely awful for teachers and students.

Just heard from my ex-colleague still working there that another two teachers have been forced out by the Prep head!
