Any Radnor House experiences from parents of girls?

Hello!

DD got an unexpected place at Radnor and I am finding their comms with us not great, and there is no offer day either - le sigh. However, I still like the school and the transport/vibe is good for us. I am curious to know what the gender split is like in the lower years (I know it's boy-heavy in the higher) and how the girls get on at advanced maths and other stem subjects. Also, how are they in terms of art, music and drama?

Any insight from current Radnor parents greatly appreciated.

Also, do the comms get better once you're in the school?? 😅

Hi, Are you referring to RH Twickenham or RH Sevenoaks?
My experience of RH Sevenoaks has been really positive.

Lizardlegs · 22/02/2024 13:10

RH Twickenham- I should have clarified! Glad to hear you’ve had a positive experience at Sevenoaks burntcakes 😊

It’s a brilliant school, very happy with it. There are around 60 kids coming up from the prep and the split in the year group is 60% boys 40% girls. The split could obviously change (either way) as they go into Yr7 though

current parent here. It’s a fantastic school, they don’t hold girls back in maths and stem. Quite the opposite. Comms once you’re in is excellent and their pastoral care is brilliant. Feel free to pm me if you’d like further insights x

Thank you so much spreadsheetsrock and aftertherain70!

Superb school - we moved here 2 years ago for year 7. Organised very well, great comms and no issues with bullying or bad behaviour.

They really care at this little school and they really do keep an eye on girls relationships and help where they can.

Only issue really is the promised land of Kneller Hall really is years away, it was supposed to be September just gone but now more like 2026 at the earliest. They dont have planning permission and really did sell the whole project way too early. Buts thats the owners doing and not the school itself.

I echo the feedback from others. The Senior school is great for girls and boys! Unfortunately the new Radnor Prep school isn’t quite as good - as an example for the summer sports terms, there is no netball, athletics or lacrosse on offer for the girls. The girls can do cricket or rugby…..Secondly when kids are away for sports fixtures, there is no program in place to ensure they make up the classes/work they have missed.(which happens in the Senior school). Lastly unlike most state or private schools, the teachers don’t send a summary of what work the kids have covered during the week, nor what they will be focusing on the next week……The Prep school has unfortunately chosen to create its own path, vs replicating the hugely successful recipe of the senior school which would ensure a great transition for children going from the Prep to the Senior school. Hoping Dukes Education step in to raise the bar for the prep school!

Sadly I have to agree with you - very different to the senior school

Totally agree with above. Senior school is great and our children have thrived there. Prep school has not lived up to hopes academically or socially.

We had the opportunity to visit the prep school for a private viewing today, and we were absolutely blown away. The teachers were incredibly approachable and passionate, which was clearly having a positive impact on the students.

For example, the STEAM area was buzzing with excitement as children designed cars digitally, 3D printed them, and attached them to self-made wooden bases—complete with working motors! The students were fully engaged and clearly enjoying themselves, as was their teacher. The art department was equally impressive, with stunning paintings and sculptures displayed throughout the space. We were also amazed by the podcast recording studio, where students were creating their own digital content.

In our opinion, this is by far the best private primary school in the area - even while still in their temporary location. It will be even more incredible once they move into Pope’s Villa. We also love that there’s no need for 11+ exam preparation to transition into the senior school. From our perspective this is truly a happy, inspiring place.

Have to agree with this comment, I was really impressed by Radnor Prep - we’re desperate for our daughter to join reception in September this year. They only need one or two more parents to commit for them to open a reception class. Anxiously waiting for good news because this school is by far the nicest we’ve seen in the area and we love the idea of flowing into the secondary school without the pressure and stress of the 11+

Just wanted to comment as we had such a good experience at the prep. Our DS went there for year 6 when it first opened and had the most wonderful year there. Such a happy place and such a blessing not to have had to do the 11+.
Now at the snr and that’s been great too. Comms are excellent. Such a lovely school and good academically too. There are some very academic kids there but those who are less academic are very well supported too. Families seem more down to earth than those at some of the other London independent schools. Sadly an imbalance of girls and boys still but very nice kids.
