Hello, has anyone received any results from Reed's School so far? They should have been sent by now I suppose...

I think they said they would post today, so hopefully tomorrow.

Still waiting for Reeds letter in KT12 - anyone else heard yet?

Reeds 11+ went out Thursday, arrived Friday. If you are 13+, I think it's another week but I don't know the date exactly.

Just got an offer letter from reeds - it went to my neighbour yesterday who only just got around to dropping it off! So relieved 😅

Got bad news from Reeds. Apparently 350 sat for 60 spaces this year according to the admissions lady. Reeds was our back up school so totally depressed now.

Oh no Bab7love....it seems like this year has been even worse than ever with so many applicants and all the “back up” schools like reeds, St. John’s and Epsom have had loads of applicants ....although I bet there will be some movement once all the deadlines for acceptance have passed and opportunities for those even not in waiting lists. It might be worth calling round some of the schools in March and just asking.

Someone told me today that 650 dc sat Claremont Fan this year! Anyone with knowledge of local Esher schools over past few years would find that stat staggering.

I think there is a little exaggeration to be honest as someone told me it was 459 for Claremont (for 20 places)....not sure it’s quite that bad...at least I hope not! Where are all these children coming from?

Things have possibly changed even more this year.

Higher numbers sitting at all these schools generally means DCs are sitting more tests because they are concerned for whatever reason, combined with many more sitting who are less local to the schools than previously due to opening up of bus routes etc (not just more children born/private v state).

Given the similarity of the tests, a DS doing well at one of those schools will likely have done well at a couple. There will be a few boys with one offer but likely more juggling more offers who will eventually decide on location/pastoral/academics etc etc.

Quite a mathematical conundrum to work out which schools will end up going to waitlists etc given how far DCs are now prepared to travel and where their other offers are. So worth being patient for now.

I do feel for those local to any school who didn't get an offer that they coveted, as they themselves are then also forced to travel further afield. Quite a crazy situation that has started to appear the last year couple of years.

Hi all, we are considering DS for next year 11+ entry (2020)at Reed's. We might leave SW London and move to Surrey, but alternatively are there boys traveling from Clapham Junction ? I think a 10 minute train to Raynes Park, followed by the school bus could be an option, but traveling alone is not great ..... My daughter commutes daily to Woldingham and has no problem with that, but they travel with big groups. I know there are a lot of boys traveling to Croyden (Whitgift/ Trinity), but think that Reed's is a very good option, providing he gets in :-) and also because his main sport is Hockey. thx

Hi 3underThree

My son started at Reed's in September in year 7 and has had an amazing time. The school is absolutely brilliant and the teachers are fantastic - I'm not just saying that. We are thrilled. He commutes from SW19 by train mainly, but others come by coach. The school coach from Coombe is very efficient and just whizzes down the A3 - the one from central Wimbledon (where we live) goes around the houses a bit, but he comes home on it sometimes and it takes about 35 minutes so it's not terrible. The train from Wimbledon takes 18 minutes and goes every half an hour which we like - it means he can leave school at 4pm rather than waiting for the 5:30pm coach to leave. But honestly, when he stays later for the coach he never grumbles - he has such a great time them and, because it's a boarding school (a minority board) there is always stuff going on out of hours. He goes in early for breakfast each day (it's super-yummy) and yesterday, as an example, he was in a poetry competition at 5:30pm so the school put on dinner for him and his friends before-hand. They can have three meals a day there (included in the fees.... partly why the fees are a bit higher).

Onto Clapham commuting - he has a friend in year 7 who ALWAYS catches the train to and from Clapham Junction and is absolutely fine with it. The only thing is that the 10 minute walk from Oxshott station is through the woods so we're not too keen on our son doing that after dark yet, but lots do, and since trains are every half an hour there really is a cohort of boys aiming for the 4:30pm, the 5pm or the 5:30pm. The 'woods' are in fact lovely - much of it is open heathland, with pine trees and sand dunes and dogs taking their owners for a walk. I think the small risk of walking through the woods could be off-set against the health benefits of all that fresh air, but I know some mums prefer to wait until their kids are slightly older before letting them walk through the woods. It's remarkably simple to do the walk though - perhaps try it out? Otherwise, you have the coach option (but coaches mean you miss the delicious breakfast!)

MumAtHomeMainly, thanks for your post, very helpful and good to get some insights in the travel schedules of the boys.
