Just being nosey really. DS's start next week and apparently they are revising in school so he doesn't need to do much at home Hmm.

My thoughts exactly. They have had some general feedback in class, but knowing the detail would help shape the revision strategy!

I've heard a rumour that for English at least the plan is to enter them all again in the summer anyway, because the exam board is not going to release the UMS (after last year's fiasco). I hope to find out more at parent's eve which is (also frustratingly) after the Jan exams!!!

Very frustrating creamteas it would be helpful to have the mark and the paper back for Geog and English Lang to see where any problems are.

web My DD is taking 3 science papers, geog, and English language.

We are waiting for the Geog and English mock results...... (they didn't do formal mocks for science, just working on past papers in class)

Loshad, controlled assessments which are bits of real gcses can take place any time. I know some mfl writing tasks are taking place this week at our local school and these are like mini exams that you have time in advance to prepare for. Worth quite a lot percentage-wise too.

There is science in January here...

We've had some results but off the record... They're giving them out formally after Christmas.

DS has all of his I think, he has various results ranging from very good to ok but no disasters.

What modules are there in Jan creamteas? DS has an English lit exam but they actually did that mock earlier than the others so that they could see what they still needed to work on for the exam. According to his English teacher DS makes the questions harder than they are - I'm not sure how he can fix that one!

Anyone got results from their mocks yet? We had had Maths so far (did ok) but none of the subjects which have module papers in January. Very frustrating!

Thank you. So it is definitely worth going through the past papers. My son realised in the morning he lost his schoolbag 2 days ago! Yesterday was an inset day. Gosh! I hope he is going to find it in school. It s never ending.

DS has done mostly full past papers but I think History will just be parts of past papers put together to cover the bits of the syllabus that they have already done.

Well our school is using past papers.

Can anyone enlighten me on the subject of mock exams, please. Are they past year papers, the same across all schools or do schools prepare their own tests?

My DD1 started hers on 17th November and has done 6 mocks already. She has already finished her maths GCSE so asked whether they would have to sit mocks as they have no more exams and were told they would have to Xmas Confused. Luckily her maths teacher is on the ball as he has sorted out some AS mocks for them to do as they will be starting their AS level in January.

My son took his first actual GCSE exam in the january of yr 10, so 4 months into the GCSE course.

This is the last year to do it that way though.

Naturally, we are doing mocks mid dec for exams to be taken in jan, they are quite close to the real thing!

My DD is in Y11 and she hasn't mentioned mocks. I am assuming they are in January rather than December.

It is crazy for schools to be doing mocks in November or December, when there is so much of the courses still to teach - and no advantage whatsoever.

If the exams are going to have a realistic feel, they need to be taken as late as possible. If they need to support special consideration for the real thing, they need to cover a decent proportion of the course.

DD has mocks on Monday. Played xbox all day. Such bliss for the parent's heart.

DS does his mocks after Christmas, but all his course are linear so only exams in May and June.

DD yr11 had mocks last week. But only Marhs and 2 option subjects. Lower sets had firs hit at real maths GCSE the week before.
Had real Eng Lang, first module x 3 for the sciences, and a Geog module in Yr10. Her next real one will be linear Maths in Feb/Mar, then the rest in May/June. CA"s ongoing.

Already getting mock results back. Nit brilliant, but DD generally does better in the real thing. Jus hope they are good enough to get the predicted grades needed for an oversubscribed sixth form place

Dd did a mock RE this week and she is in year 9. She does a mock ICT next week and her real exam is in January. I'm sure she said there was another one too. Bit early if you ask me.

Yep, end of next week until end of term! Official 'results day' in January.... Some schools round here give the study leave for it, but not ours, which I can't help but be pleased about!
