Glasgow area hotel help

I’m needing some help location wise. Traveling to Glasgow on a Saturday to do some shopping. DH and DC want to go to the VIP part of Cineworld. The plan is to stay over that night and then continue down South on our holiday. We are from North of Perth.

Hotels in Glasgow don’t seem to have parking or it’s certainly quite expensive so considering one or two stops on a train into the city with the hotel being slightly out. Can anyone suggest a hotel out with, on a quick and easy train line that’s easy to get is back towards the m74 South? Thanks.

Premier Inn Bearsden (or Milgnavie, they're about 100 yards apart) have parking, closish to Milgnavie Station.

Fancier and prettier option would be Boclair House Hotel which is near Hillfoot and Bearsden Stations.

More convenient if just for parking/sleeping might well be Premier Inn at Stepps which was adequate pre pandemic - again close to a railway station.

Do you need to take the car or could you get a train into Glasgow, stay over and home the next day?

If so the Motel One Hotel right at Central Station is good. My husband and I always stay there on an overnight stay. Right at the train station so we just dump our bags, shop around, drop the bags back of and out for dinner and drinks.

It's a brilliant hotel location wise, it's quiet enough also despite being right in the centre and the rooms and clean and comfortable. The bar is really nice also.

Thanks. No as we live North of Perth and are traveling onto England the following day.

If you are coming from Perth and then on down south then Bearsden / Milngavie is a bit out of your way. You’ll be coming down the east of the city and then round to Hamilton and Raith interchange.

So ideally you’re want a hotel to the east or south east of Glasgow - you will be coming down the M80 and then the M73. Maybe the Stepps / Lenzie / Chryston way?

Not that I know any suitable hotels ( sorry ) I’m just thinking about the geography as I do this journey frequently .

@I0NA

The hotel situation is the pull to Bearsden - struggling to think of many hotels closer to the motorway and trains other than Stepps... Possibly further south has options but I can't think of convenient hotels in Croy or Lenzie way.

There’s a premier Inn at Stepps and a railway station but I know nothing about either of them.

Or you could look on Trip Advisor for Glasgow city hotels and select for free parking. There’s hotels like Urban, Ibis at Springfield Quay and Sherbrooke hotel on the south side and you’re be close to the motorway going south.

Apparently Babbitt Bowsers ( in the Merchant City) has free parking - who knew?

I’ve not stayed in any of these places BTW so you’d need to check reviews etc.

I've stayed in the Premier inn at Stepps a few times, does the job and a handy location.

Bearsden is on a rubbish train link line, have you looked at the Hilton doubletree? The parking is not anymore expensive than multiple train tickets.

It's not exactly what you're asking for, but what I would do in that situation is stay at the Premier Inn Glasgow South which is just out of the city centre and has parking, then get a taxi up to the cinema and back. It would be a walkable distance but with kids and on a Saturday night, I'd be taking a taxi for all it would cost.

It's 5 mins off of the M8 and 5 mins back onto the M74 to continue with your journey Smile

Glasgow airport hotels. There is an express bus into Glasgow. Parking at premier Inn, holiday Inn express etc is cheap. Premier Inn rooms cheap and comfy.

Why not leave the car at a station and stay over in the centre? Plenty of choice then and be more fun too

What about Finnieston & Pacific Quay area? There's Raddisson Red, Campanile & Hilton Garden Inn in Finnieston itself, about 5 min walk to Exhibition train station, or across the water there's The Village and Premier Inn Pacific Quay which would add another 6 or 7 mins on to your walk to the station? They all have parking I believe, although you may need to pay at some. You'd also be about a 7-8 min drive to M74 from there (in non rush hour of course). Its a nice area and the river looks pretty at night too.

The Village Hotel is central enough to walk wherever you need to go and it has parking.

Pre book a Q park and stay centrally costs £16 for 24hrs.

I've stayed in the hotel mondo in Coatbridge. Was similar quality to premier Inn. Station less then 10 minute walk and frequent trains into Glasgow. Handy for motorway heading south.

Could you park at Newton park and ride. Will be the right side for getting back o to M74. Then get a train into a hotel in city centre

Would suggest either Premier Inn Pacific quay - just across the pedestrian bridge to Exhibition Centre train station or a short walk to Govan subway. Or GoGlasgow urban hotel which is a 10 minute walk from Cessnock subway. Sherbrooke castle also close to Dumbreck train station.

I've stayed at Pacific Quay and GoGlasgow - both are clean but not fancy.
Have also stayed at Holiday Inn express at top of Renfield street - parking is in the multi storey behind the concert hall.

have you tried one of the parking websites? I had a look at JustPark - put in Cowcaddens for 24hrs Sat 12th-Sun13th Feb and got the Hilton Doubletree parking for £10, which is handy for the Cineworld if that's the focus of your visit. I think you could end up paying more than that in train fares TBH...

Thank you everyone. Some great information here. Including parking options which I hadn't considered. Thanks so much.

What about Motherwell? Good train link in to Glasgow and very easy access to M74 south. We’ve stayed at the Moorings in Motherwell a few times. Free parking and a short walk to the station. It’s a couple of minutes from the M74.

I've stayed in the Pacific Quay / SECC area quite a few times. There are quite a few hotels to choose from - Premier inn, Village, Crowne Plaza, Ibis etc, plenty of parking and cheap, easy trains from Exhibition to Central.

There is a Hilton with parking right behind cineworld in city centre. Stayed there and it is nice.
