Husband has said he thinks he’s bisexual

Came home from meeting friends for lunch, DH said I need to talk to you, have been to a health clinic this morning and have found out I have syphilis, so you need to get tested at tea time - I have made you an appointment. WTF??? I felt my whole world implode, how have you got syphilis? Turns out he met a random man for sex and must have got it from him!!! So many questions, we have been married for 44 years, have grown up children and many grandchildren, no inclination at all that he’d been thinking about other men. Have been to the clinic, had a full health screen and two injections of penicillin, and will need to return in four weeks time. He’s also had the same and has been tested for HIV etc which thankfully is negative. I have no idea what to say, what to do, feel absolutely distraught and have not slept all night for thinking of what to do. I feel like stoving his head in, which I obviously won’t, I feel so hurt and betrayed by the one man I felt I could trust with my life. We are both retired and have a beautiful home and, I thought, a lovely life. Now I feel it’s all been a lie, and feel so worthless and degraded. He has a neurological condition that I have been helping him with, adapting to his reality of this condition and adjusting our lives so that he can a good life with it. He wants me to stay and work through this together and has promised to never meet anyone else for sex again as he apparently can’t bear seeing me so upset. I have no idea what to think, how to proceed etc etc, I just feel physically exhausted and sick from it all, feel too embarrassed and ashamed to discuss this with my best friend, no fucking clue on what to do next.
