A guy I am dating, he is 36.
I have not had hot water for over a week, my boiler broke ect
I have said to him I not meeting him until my boiler is fixed which will be next thrusday.
He then made a "joke" saying "Your cats must love you because you must smell of fish"
Who the hell says something like that, I cringed and said I dont smell of fish and that isnt funny to which he said it was a "joke"

I'm absolutely disgusted, I am not overreacting am I?

You'd have enjoyed the conversation I had with a new colleague who asked if my husband had run off with a younger model, then Grin

Yuk. I find that sort of humour from my DH amusing as I give as good as I get (and I know that he doesn't mean anything by it, we just like to think up imaginative insults for each other) but we have been together 17 years.

Just dating for a short while is way too soon to say something like that IMO.

Agree fully with pp. At best he's thinking "why did I say that?" . Even then, its not good. You deserve far better op

Urgh. I agree with all the above. Immature and what a passion killer. A giant sniggering man boy.

I laughed, for the simple reason he actually thought that was appropriate. tartlett bit extreme, he made a fish joke, and you're now making up your own answers on his behalf on different subjects that are irrelevant!

I love it when men say shit like that to me. I like to really skewer them, while remaining completely deadpan.

'What do you mean? Why would I smell of fish?'
'Well, you know...'
'No, sorry, you'll have to explain."
"Well, you can't have a shower, so..."
"So, what? I'm going to run sardines on myself"
"No...you know. You'll...smell. Down there."
"Down where? Brighton? I don't get what you're saying."

And so on, and so forth, while the bugger squirms.

Yeah, I'd cut him loose.

It's such a vile and immature "joke", I couldn't really have any respect for him after that.

36? He is mentally 20 years younger than that.

Has anyone suggested dumping him? Grin

Just because I cannot wash properly, I usually exfoliate ect and scrub my hair. I have been using the gym showers but they aren't particularly clean its more a OCD thing I don't feel right not showering in my own house so just did not want to meet him till after then.
He has done other creepy things and keeps inviting himself on my holidays which is annoying.

I am just going to cut him off really cringed me out that comment.

He sounds so childish. You don't need that.

Report

Maybe it's just his sense of humour. Not defending him but it's not the worst joke in the world really. I'd laugh but I have a weird sense of humour. He probably misjudged it though.
