Stinky Maclaren Twin Techno

Have just received a Twin Techno off Ebay and it reeks of cigarette smoke. It is so bad that it made my dining room pong so I have put it outside!

Anyone know if I can just strip it down and bung fabric bits in the washer? I suppose I can scrub the metal and plastic but the fabric and rain cover will need thorough washing - Febreeze would be no match for this stink.

Serves me right for not asking seller if they smoke or not

OK, I got a friend to demonstrate the clips on her Maclaren so the hoods are off which is good because they smell the most.

The cosy-toes and head-hugger things don't smell really, it is just the seats, straps and hood. I will wash them once more and if the smell doesn't go I will try the vinegar trick.

Lilysmummy, you must have been seething with your friend!

buy a bottle of white vinegar and soak it in it for a few hours or overnight, then wash it again, will be fresh as a daisy when its dry, guaranteed! thats what i did when i lent my friend my maclaren and her DP smoked and stank it out.

oooh dear not good if smell doesn't come out...you should be able to squeeve the clip and it comes out if that makes any sense!!

They've got clips that I can't work out how to undo. I will have a closer look tomorrow.

I will also wash the whole lot again tomorrow because it all still smells of smoke but with delicious overtones of tropical diamonds

Anyone know how to get deep-rooted smoke out of cushions? I bet it isn't easy!

I can't get the bloomin' hoods off! I have got all the seat cushions and straps off and they are in the washer as I speak. I will have a better look at how to remove the hoods tomorrow, TBH after spending half an hour or so stripping it down I smelt so stale and minging I had no desire to fiddle about with it any more.

So a rather naked twin buggy is again sat outside my house in disgrace for being so stinky.

It did only cost me 50 quid and apart from the stink and some of the foam handle having been pulled off it is in very good condition so will prob still give her positive feedback. She never claimed it was from a non-smoking house.

Ooh, the washer has stopped, fingers crossed it now smells of tropical diamonds or whatever wanky fragrance the conditioner is!

even hoods can go in!! just pop in a pillowcase first. very very easy to wash and remove mac covers. just shout if you get stuck.

Oh good idea about photos! I will strip it and put it all on a 30C quick wash then.

It is still outside because the smell is horrid. I got it for a really good price so am not too bothered, I mean, they are hardly going to write in the advert 'we smoke loads' but I will remember to ask next time if it doesn't state that it's from a non smoking house.

Thanks!

That's really out of order. Even worse, imagine the poor child that sat in it
I have machine-washed Mac Techno covers on 30C handwash after a spectacular projectile vomit and they were fine. Just remember where all the bits and bobs go when you put it back - a digital photo might help (perhaps just me being useless but it took a good 10 minutes to work it all out!)
