Out n about Nipper for Newborn without carrycot?

Did anyone use the Out n About Nipper for a newborn without getting a carrycot?
They claim that in reclined position and with their Newborn Insert it is safe to use, but I'm feeling a bit skeptical about it... Anyone experience with it?

Generally, if you're using the Out n About Nipper, how does it perform when you're not out on terrain, but go shopping or something for a change?

I had the nipper for my first child and loved it so much I bought the double version when I had my second child. I used it from birth, with a little insert /footmuff. As long as the straps are secure around the baby's body it will be fine! I've been through so many buggies but the nipper is the best! I could run with it, shop easily with it, as its narrow and streets easily and it fold down easily too

I had the normal and recommended it to my sister. My sister then bought the sport version as she is a runner. We both enjoyed!

Such a good pram! Handles all sorts. We didn't use it from newborn so can't speak to that, but generally it's a great pram and excellent value for money.

I had one with a carry cot for DD. Tried her in the seat when she was about 4 months old and she looked quite lost and unsupported. I didn’t like her facing away that small either. But she was a very tiny baby.

I got nearly full price back on carrycot and pushchair when I sold it on.

@Nameandgamechange123 , @Hugasauras , did you ever have any issues with punctures while you were/are using it?
That's a worry for me as I don't have much experience with bikes either and would need to learn from scratch what to do. Also imagine it as a bit of a panic situation if I have a puncture in the middle of our wild landscape park and have to somehow get home with the baby and a punctured pram.

@Nameandgamechange123, as your sister has the Nipper Sport, do you happen to know if the front wheel on that rotates at all - or is it always locked?

I'm also worried a little about not being able to change it to parent facing in pushchair mode. :/

No we never had a puncture and we used it off-road a lot on forest paths and stuff. Tbh even if you did have a puncture I don't think it would stop you getting home or to wherever you needed to be, just make it a bit harder and you'd want to fix it before you went out the next time! It wasn't something I ever worried about tbh.

I haven’t used it, but just reading your comments it sounds like it’s not parent facing? I would definitely want parent facing for a new baby, otherwise you’d be forever craning round to see if they’d gone to sleep/if they’re okay. And it’s just nice to see them. I’ve only changed to facing away at 1year old.

And if it’s not a lie flat carry cot it’s really important you can see a new baby for safety reasons - I.e. head tipping forward and blocking airway.

If I was going to use it as main pram from birth I think I'd just get the carrycot tbh. We bought it when DD was six months or so so she wanted to sit up and look out and we didn't need it so didn't bother, but if we had got it from birth I'd want something parent-facing for the first few months.

The sport one had a fixed wheel so much harder to use in town but lovely for long walks. The normal nipper I had had a switch so that you could fix the wheel if you needed to for a run etc.
I don't remember having issues with punctures but you can get a special green gel seal to put around the inner tube to make it more robust(to get done at a bike shop or something). Hope this helps

Probably without the insert as I was away at my mum’s, had travelled by train and just taken buggy and car seat attachment.

I did get some punctures, lots of woodland dog walks and careless XH so took the wheels to a bike shop and had the inner tubes ‘slimed’ which worked really well. Did carry a puncture repair kit and pump with me though. You can also buy silicone liner for the tyres too. Sure you could buy them pre-done from out’n’about when I had mine.

We used double one with a seperate insert we bought. Used it 3 years, very rough terrain where we live only 1 puncture ( bike shop sorted it). Can get loads of shopping underneath. Had single version too. Mine was old version.

Best pushchair ever. It does lay completely flat but I haven’t any experience of the insert.

If you can afford it I’d get the carrycot as I loved this buggy but did find it a bit sad not being able to see LO! Although to be fair you can actually check on them really easily especially if the hood up. It’s such a comfortable buggy for them and great to push.

It was annoying to fold ie if on bus. And heavy to carry. Ideally you would have an extremely light buggy and this one!

If you want parent facing, mountain buggy swift, Urban and terrain all have the carrycot plus option which is carrycot first 6 months and then parent faces as seat still until 9kg. I think we used until 12 months approx when I started using main seat. But again the main seat can be used from birth

I used the Nipper Double with the newborn own insert from birth, it was fine, it's what it's designed to do.

Put Slime in the tyres if you are worried about punctures! I have used my Nipper for a few newborns now (I foster babies) without a carrycot, just a nest. The hood has a window you can use check they are OK
