Pushchairs

Sanity-check my pushchair choice please

The usual story: first time mum, researched heavily, now 6 weeks from EDD and wracked with indecision.

We live in an inner suburb of a big northern city. Pushchair will be used (in rough order of frequency) for local walks (mostly pavements, but a fair amount of potholes and cobbles and mulchy leaves, plus a healthy bit of park/gravel/towpath - but no real off-roading); in and out of a small car (Vauxhall Corsa); tram into town; occasional train journey to see friends/family (including in London). So I want something that deals with all of that, plus is ideally parent facing, and not massive so will last through toddler years. Planning on a second child at some point but not too quickly, so buggy board a useful bonus. Car seat compatibility not that important to me. But otherwise I know I'm after the magical unicorn of prams.

The closest I've found is the Easywalker Mosey, which looks like it does a bit of everything pretty well. My reservations are that it might still be on the heavy side for long-term use. I was determined not to be one of those people who bought a massive pram then switched to a maclaren after 6 months. Am I sleep walking into being that person? But e.g. the Bee seems too flimsy and not that much smaller.

I love the idea of the Babyzen Yoyo 0+ (and would probably get it if I still lived in London) but the forward-facing non-flat seat after 6 months (or maybe sooner with a big baby) is a big compromise and I feel like we might destroy it within months of dragging it about. Plus the newborn seat looks a bit less cocoony without the top cover, which looks too warm for summer. Will I end up buying something else in July because my PFB is too exposed and/or I don't want to put him in the bigger FF seat? But I can see how brilliant it would be for 1yr onwards.

I'm think I'm about to click buy on the Mosey. Someone please tell me if I'm making an expensive error.

(FYI, "buy both" will not wash with my DH...)

Great! I'm watching one that's currently £215 never taken out of boxes. I'm glad you like it though, I've heard nothing but positive reviews for it x

I spotted it and pounced the same day for a Buy It Now price. I think it was actually £210 or £220? Anyway, it's arrived and in v good condition (only lacking the travel bag) so I'm hoping to flog it for £250 when I'm done with it Grin

MrsMoggins where did you find a yoyo for £200 on eBay?! I stalk obsessively look each day for one on there :-(

(I have also bought a Babyzen Yoyo Blush - in my defence it was only £200 on eBay and I reckon I can sell it for the same in a few years the pram addiction starts here )

Sorry, I'd forgotten about this thread! Have you bought the Mosey? I would recommend it - happy to answer any Qs.

It's funny you should ask - I just called the shop to get an update. Apparently they're just waiting for the inlay and canopy from Easywalker and they're calling me with an ETA this afternoon. As long as it arrives before the baby does...

Mrsmoggin - any news on your mosey what's it like?

Definitely recommend the ergo sling - use with the infant insert for the first few months. You can use it to carry on your chest, hip or back and I still carry my 4 year old in it on long walks.

You need to get it all adjusted right but when it fits properly it carries the weight on your hips not shoulders so is v comfy.

Update: THE MOSEY IS ORDERED.

Will be back here in two weeks for tips about selling to replace with BJCM/Bee/Rapberry/Yoyo if I hate it.

Currently compiling a master spreadsheet of slings - thank you so much for the recommendations. Maybe the magical unicorn of slings is out there after all...

Boba 4G is fantabulous. Can use from newborn. I tried it and manduca from sling library. Prefer the 4g. So easy to use and pretty.

I'm massive bugaboo bee fan. I wouldn't say it was flimsy at all. I've had mine 4.5 years and it's into it's second child and still looks good as new. I bought the bassinet for the ds2 and it was wonderful. Never owned a second buggy. For me it was the unicorn pram. But it doesn't really offroad much.

Have you looked at the stokke scoot or crusi? They were an almost buy this time for me, but husband wouldn't let me.

Manduca for the sling and icandy raspberry for the buggy!

SpanielPlusToddler · 09/01/2015 18:48

Your unicorn sling might be a manduca! Newborn bit inside so can be used from the start and I still sometimes carry my 2 and half year old in it. Tried a close caboo to start but didn't like it, so just went straight into manduca.

If it helps i have bjcm and love it BUT bought for ds2 as a toddler. Bought carrycot and tried to use it as a travel system when ds3 was born. I lasted 2 weeks before i sold the carrycot and bought a bugaboo cameleon! It just didn't feel sturdy enough for a newborn. Now ds3 is in the seat i use both. Can't beat the bjcm for chucking in the boot if you're rushing or for public transport.
One word of warning would be to put the pushchair in your boot before you buy it. Can you fit your shopping in too? Or travel cot, changing bag and overnight bag if you travel to visit family and friends?

The Uppababy Vista is totally lush but sadly my car boot says no.

Everyone who has a BJCM seems to utterly love them so there must be something in that but the two part fold (and then getting it all in the boot) during the carrycot months is too much for me. Hmm, maybe a little BJCM as a car boot stroller in a year's time might be just the ticket. it begins

Thanks also for the sling recs - it seems I probably will need two rather than one magical unicorn sling of dreams so I'll get myself a stretchy first and see how we go. To the internet! ignores pile of work to be finished before mat leave

I love my Connecta, have been using it since DD was 9 weeks old (she was only 9lbs then), fastens with 3 Buckles and is superlightweight, comes in loads of designs and only costs £70(ish). I also used to breastfeed on the school run but there was a knack to it at first.

A stretchy wrap would be good for the first few months though as you can just put baby in and out without fastening and unfastening.

Have an uppababy vista which I loved but did struggle to get in in the boot of my Peugeot 107 and have now moved on to a stroller which fits in my boot. No experience of the other buggies.
Slings there is a huge choice would say a stretchy is best for newborn (I have a close caboo) and now I have a Lenny lamb buckle carrier. If your in Manchester there are a few sling meets around to try a few.

I'm also thinking about the Mosey (despite posting about Mutsy) so am watching with interest :-)

Baby jogger versa allows parent facing for longer and appears quite compact to fold, I reckon it would fit in a corsa.

Bondolino is my sling of choice although I prefer the close caboo for the first two months. Bondolino is suitable from birth though assuming baby is not teeny tiny.

Sling - boba 4g

Report
TeaandHobnobs · 06/01/2015 17:46

I'm a BabyJogger addict (now have a BJCM 4 wheel, a Vue and a CM double - DH is not impressed) so I'm sad you have discounted that one. I guess I was never in a situation of having to fold it on buses etc while using the carrycot - although it was always easy to pop the carrycot on and off. DS was a diddy prem so he was in the carrycot parent facing until 6m anyway. People often gasp with amazement when I fold it up one-handed with a flourish Grin

On the sling front, I think Ergos and Manducas have infant inserts so can be used from pretty early on. I love Connectas too (I have three now Blush) so I recommend that a bit later on, as they fold up really small. Getting to grips with a woven wrap is really worth it too though, so versatile. DD is due in a couple of months and I can't wait to get my sling collection out again Grin

Well obviously I do now need to find the unicorn of slings

Anyone know a robust yet lightweight yet simple-to-use unisex sling which will fit from birth to age 4 with front, back, side and upsidedown carry options and which will allow me to breastfeed, tap dance and juggle? For less than £109?

Its how I started with my first :o

And if you don't get addicted to pushchairs you could always do slings... I'm a little bit in love with my Connecta Wink
