What if I don't want a travel system. Just a pram. What would you buy?

I'm not bothered if the car seat fits on. I will just move baby from car seat to pram.

I will at some point buy a Maclaren Tech XT so I don't really need it to turn into a pushchair.

I just want a comfortable pram with a large carrycot so baby can stay lying flat for as long as possible.

What would you get?

My 18 month old can still sleep in his mothercare my4 which you can pick up fairly cheaply on e bay. When he was tiny and it was winter I had the p and t cocoon in there which fitted perfectly.

Same as essex i have uppababy vista, good pram top, and when you turn into pushchair its great too. We never used car seat on it, but you can apparently. Folds up really well, light but sturdy and v easy to push. If you look on uppababy website they have list of stockists, but i think john lewis also stock them too now, so worth a look if you can get to see one!

we had an emmaljunga and it was brilliant - it was a proper pushchair that was robust and lasted (with the addition of the snap on toddlerseat) until my boys were old enough to walk - then I passed it on. I only had that and a cheapo stroller for occasional trips on the bus.

The monkey looks fab but I doubt I'd be able to find one second hand. I couldn't see any on Ebay.

I had the silvercross 3D for dd2 and I wasn't impressed. Is the sleepover better?

What about a silver cross sleepover with the swivel wheeled chassis? That sounds perfect for what you want and you can pick them up quite cheaply second hand and still in good condition.

Fuss I was in the Pram Centre today and found a new one I like, the EmmalJunga monkey, it was a lovely colour too and had a pretty lining.

Just had a look at the edge, it looks like it would fold the same as a Leebruss or similar.

For the Herqules, I got the double from Gumtree.

Although now I'm swaying towards an Emmaljunga Edge. Does anyone know how small they fold up?

Just been looking at the reviews for the Graco Evo and reading some threads on MN about it. It seems everyone really likes it.

I can't find the review on the Nitro but the threads I've read are all positive.

I always fancied a nitro city but never actually got one, it's really compact. Suppose you could also consider a mutsy evo, it's bigger but has a good lie flat seat. You could do a lot worse than a Graco Evo also, I think it has been mentioned upthread somewhere. A Jane Muum may also work.

And my first was a Leebruss, most uncomfy seat ever and really hard to steer, tyres had a tendency to deflate.

The Herqules/Emmaljunga tyres are also puncture proof.

I have the single and the double of the Herqules, have tried dozens of prams and this is by far, the best.

Very comfy, lies completely flat, adjustable leg/foot rest, swivel front wheels available in 3 and 4 wheeler, changing bag and bottle holders built into the hood, hood covers entire pram when upright and half the pram when laid flat, choice of soft or hard carry cot, folds very easy, massive shopping basket (can hold nearly a weeks worth of shopping or instead 2 boxes of nappies! And you can actually attach a car seat if you wanted.

And you can buy them very cheaply. I have raved about it, seriously. I've tried most of the more expensive prams but this is so much better.

I think a lie flat seat would actually be better now I've realised the difference, or a rising backrest on a carrycot.

Walking on normal paths, round the shops, school run etc.

They are usually 3 in 1s they have 4 large wheels but the front swivels.

Do you defo want a carrycot or would a lie flat seat also work? 1 of my 3 liked lying in her carrycot until over 6mths, the other 2... not so much, a lie flat seat would have been better for them in hindsight. Some carrycots have a rising backrest type thing though.. i'm trying to remember which ones.

Your original brief was hmmm not too big, light.. what else,i have forgotten. Lots of walking, what type of terrain? Like would air tyres be useful or a pita due to punctures etc.

I've read a MN review for the emmaljunga and now I don't think it would fit in my boot - we have a standard hatchback.

As above a used coachbuilt pram, there are plenty still around otherwise emmaljunga classic type ones, babystyle do some too as do the glasgow pram centre/vib.

From what you're saying used would probably be good for you as you have no illusions about using it past the baby stage so not looking for the elusive does everything pushchair. Buying and selling a used one for the time you want it for you should be able to break even. Personally I would go with swivel wheels rather than 4 fixed ones but that is a personal preference based on my life not yours.

Would that be too big ?
I also have a Jan Stewart Churchill pram maybe you should check them out .
Or what about the silver cross elegance ,it looks lovely but I don't know if you can just buy the carrycot and chassis or f it's the whole system .

The inglesina classica is beautiful. I would look a bit out of place pushing that around here though.

Its exactly what I want though.

I had an inglesina classica in vanilla, totally gorgeous , looks like a baby balmoral .
Absolutely perfect , and folds to go in the car.
Sold it and regretted it so i then had to buy a Kensington as my little girl hates being confined into a buggy .

We have a Graco Evo which is good but the car seat is heavy. The pram part and wheels alone are fine, and it converts into a pushchair. I agree with you that transfering the baby is much simpler than lugging a car seat about...

DS will be out of the carrycot by about 3 months I expect, but like Mortified has said the pushchair lies completely flat so the only difference is it becomes forward facing.

Yes, the carrycot on the xlr is small, dd was in it til 4/5mo however the stroller also lies totally flat so.eveb once they are out of the carrycot they can still lie totally flat (dd 18mo still does for her naps)

My ds slept flat in bugaboo chameleon til 14 months old. Seemed one of the largest 2 yrs ago.
