Hi
I was delighted to hear that I can order this (Seat Unit) to upgrade my Zapp but need asap and can't find anywhere to order it yet - Does any know

  1. Where is it available to order now (if at all)?
  2. Does the original rain cover fit the new seat and if not whether the rain cover comes with the seat unit or only with an order of a completely new Zapp?

    Thank you

I had the Graco universal one for my Zapp which fitted great :) The proper ones are awful!

I have the normal Zapp and the rain cover is awful. Hardly covers the pushchair at all. I've also got a petit star zia the that rain cover fits on the Zapp perfectly!

thanks blackberrymumble - I actually managed to have a play with one in ToysRUs last week and I thought the same thing. It's a shame it can't sit up a bit more when it's rear facing. Guess can't have everything though! :)

asuwere, I am not sure you could but a board on it (just received my new Zapp Xtra last Friday - resorted to buying the complete thing as despite promises the seat unit isn't going to be available after all until end Oct!) and I noticed today that when using the seat unit in rear facing I bashed my knees and shins a few times on it as the seat unit sticks out a bit. Hope this helps. But othersies its great - really light and baby slept beautifully in the fully recline position.

Good point! I nearly bought one and still might if the seat unit doesn't appear. Its amazingly easy to fold down and put up. Only downside is that it doesn't seem to take the maxi cosi seat as an option.

anangelwithin - can I ask, do you think that you'd be able to put a buggyboard on the xtra when it's rear facing? I know buggyboard fits on the zapp frame but not sure if there would be space for the child to stand on it if the seat is facing the parent as hard to work out from pictures... If that makes sense?
Thanks.

Dear AnAngelWithin - would love to hear what you think of it. I've just ordered the seat unit on the Oliver Baby website. I spoke to a really helpful chap there last week who said that they were still expecting delivery of the seat units end of Aug/beg of Sept - he was very surprised to hear what Dorel told me, so fingers crossed.

Tellnoone - I absolutely love the Zapp for short trips, it is so easy to manouver expecially in small shops and is brillant for travelling by air. Hope you like it.

So glad I found this thread! Just bought the old zapp frame to use with the car seat for little trips in and out of the car, but I'm now excited that I can get a rear-facing seat to go with it too!

hey, you can purchase just the seat unit on www.olivers-baby-care.co.uk/quinny-zapp-xtra-seat-unit.html i was looking around as i could do with one myself, my daughter is 6months and when she sleeps her head tends to drop forwards so i end up tilting the zapp when i push it so she doesnt get a bad neck!! I will be very interested in an upgrade in 4-5 months' time -- currently have Quinny Zapp we use for DD (2.5) and expecting DC3 in late February (so too late to have a chance of being a QuinnyCaster, curses...). But, yes, it's pretty much just me that this will be good timing for.

Thanks owensyummymummy, I'd be really interested to hear what they say. If you can, let us know.

I am really surprised with their sales and marketing strategy. I would have expected that they would be keen to retain current loyal customers by offering the seat unit upgrade immediately (as frankly I can't quite work out who will need it as an upgrade in 4-5 months time, as most babies in a Quinny Zapp will be old enough to sit up in the current seat by then). Retaining customers convinced of a product's benefits is frankly easier than 'swtiching in' new customers. And good word of mouth marketing is very valuable which they obviously are aware of since they are using the Quinnycasters idea - I would apply but since I am completely new to forums etc. (never used facebook etc.) I wouldn't be much good to them!). So am very confused as to their strategy, and as you can tell very frustrated as I can't find anything else that does what I need - my main issue being that having hurt my back I can no longer remove the car seat with baby in from the frame.

Ah that is annoying!! I preordered a seat unit at the end of july and was told it would be dispatched end of august/september!!

I will definitely be ringing them tomorow

What a shame. Just another way of getting money out of people I suppose.

That is a shame, I was thinking of upgrading mine. You could always try QuinnyCasters you might get a free one to trial and review. You can keep it.

Thanks 5inthebed, good idea. I just phoned Dorel and was very, very disappointed to hear that they are not makiung the seat unit available until Dec/Jan. Seems to me that they want you to buy the new complete Zapp and not offer the flexibility of upgrading. Frankly by Dec/Jan the baby will be able to sit up in the current seat unit. Very, very disappointed as I love my Zapp, but am now going to have to find something else. By the way they say that the old rain cover does fit the new seat unit.
