I’m considering painting our living room a rich deep dark blue shade. Is this completely insane? Is it about to become hideously dated? And if you have this paint colour up at the moment would you share a picture please?

@Feelingpoorlysick I love your dining room, what colour is your grey you’ve got with it please?

I did our dining room in F&B Railings about 6 years ago - its actually very blue in real life. The room is in the basement and very dark with a low ceiling so it makes it really cosy. We have 2 walls of white painted bookcases and the ceiling is painted in a white egg shell which bounces light down. We have plain navy curtains and navy upholstery on the sofa, armchair and dining chairs and a dark wood dining table - it looks brilliant in candlelight.

Any recommendation for a particular shade of teal for a north west facing room? Am loving dulux teal tension and valspar vintage teal.

@Seemorebemore I'm super impressed by the colour arranged books!

@BitOfFun that wallpaper is seriously stunning! I'm gutted I'm not brave enough to go with something so dramatic.

And also having serious stained glass envy @supadupapupascupa

I'm looking to do my bedroom this year and feel like I'm getting braver for a dark blue/teal colour. Our carpet is a silvery blue colour so I think the navy would go better.

This is giving me lots of ideas - thanks all!

@Annasgirl I love your pictures too. May I ask where you bought them from? Hope you don’t mind.

This is farrow and ball down pipe. Looks navy in this room but almost black in another room.

p.s. : just to add: I'm painting my study in Dulux Proud Peacock next, it's a more greenish hue, but I think it will work well in the south-westerly small study that gets lots of light - I also have white furniture to go in there, and will probably add some details to the bookcases, wallpaper or paint.
I love these colours - and honestly, I don't think they go out of fashion that easily. Have a look at those wonderful Georgian houses. It's the same colours!

Another one here for Dulux Teal Tension - god, it is fab!
We have dark wood floors, and light grey sofas with white skirting boards and coving, and white furniture, plus a black woodburner with dark wood beam over. It really helps make all the other colours pop!
The colour itself is cosy, and with uplighting is just stunning.

You can go crazy with a colour like that as there are loads of neutrals that suit it and then brighter hues really complement it: greens, corals (!), mustard, dark red, lighter blues.

I can change the decor if I want to (and I do for Christmas, Easter, spring/summer). I get lots of compliments - I've had it for 4 years, and I don't grow tired of it!

This is Proud Peacock by Dulux. I’ve had it about it four years and still like it. I also have a Hague blue bedroom but it shows all the fingerprints.

So do I- well, a five minute walk. Have you tried wallpaper before? This is the first time we've done it since the house was woodchipped some time back in the day!

@BitOfFun I’d kill to have a really bold wallpaper in our hall (and living room, and bedroom....) but we live by the sea. Wallpaper would last about 0.2 seconds on the damp walls here!

Interestingly, a strong blue is the Pantone Colour Of The Year, so we can expect to see it a lot in interior design.

The colour used at the RA for the current Picasso exhibition in the blue and eps period rooms is just what I want but I’m too worried about appearing utterly vacuous to ask them what it is

Ours is Dulux Breton Blue - similar to Sapphire salute but a little lighter. Love it

@Comefromaway, we had a similar response from parents (mostly OH’s side). my parents weren’t keen on the swatches but like it now it’s done. OH’s step mum detests it and couldn’t bring herself to say a single nice thing

That’s nice supa & I love the windows.

With the fireplace the previous owner did a lot of diy and there is a funny non matching strip along the mantelpiece so the fireplace does need to change.

My dad hates it. He popped round when the painter was there and phoned me to ask was I sure about it.

We love it.
