Quote to underpin two-storey bay window - 28k? Insane or reasonable.

Apolgies for my lack of knowledge upfront but not sure if this is over the odds.

We've been quoted 28k to underpin a two-storey bay window on a Victorian house in Brixton.

Building firm has been recommended by Structural Surveyor who has picked up movement. Alarm bells Hmm with close connection?

Thanks MrsFlorrick - yes the report was done by a Structural Surveyor so will get second opinion. Hopefully wont involve entire re-build.

Am planning to go out to tender on and get at least four quotes now.

That sounds overly expensive.
I am assuming you have a structural engineers report. If it's just a Building Surveyor, I would speak to an engineer

And go and get other quotes and a second opinion.

There may be reasons for your under pinning being more expensive than average however £28k for a small section sounds a lot.

Thanks Silverstreaks - thought it was a tad hefty!

Not to my knowledge - looks abit wonky in places along the pointing. Rotational movement picked up. Thought it was pretty common though on London Clay.

Sounds an awful lot. Is the front section about to slide off?

Think you need another quote.
