Waiting and wondering

This is a thread for people who are waiting on waiting lists for preferred schools.
We moved areas after the deadline so ended up as late applicants. DD has started at nursery at our first choice school (0.1 mile away). Due to late application we didn't get in but are 1st on the list. We have a place at 3rd choice school which is ok but really want DD to stay where she is. Not planning on appealing as think it wouldn't work.
Would anyone would like to join me in waiting list waiting?

I think it works differently in different areas. Here they rang me as soon as there was a space. The letter says "an unexpected vacancy has occurred in your child's year group and it has been allocated to childs name".
Hope there is more good news for

oh that's a bit depressing..do they 'activate' moves.. as soon as they are available.. I'm hoping someone doesn't reply by deadline - and then we get their space.. but no one will tell me when the deadline is (I'm hunting for a junior space.. I'm first on the list.)

accept not accent

Congrats OP! You must be so relieved.

We're still number 5 on the list. Last Thursday was the last day for parents to accent or decline school places. The school which was our 1st choice has said they should have an updated waiting list by Friday. I just have to hope that the other 4 in front decline any places that come up! Grin

My DD is in year 1 and we have just been allocated a space at the school I wanted her to go to when we applied for Reception! We have been on the waiting list for 2 years. At one point we were 37th on the list but we slowly but steadily moved up. We had to email renew our place on the waiting list every term and make a fresh in-year application after a year.

Obviously, I hope everyone on this thread gets a place at their preferred school much sooner than that, but if you are prepared to wait it out it will hopefully happen eventually.

Please don't feel so hopeless noyoucant, if you are still first on the list there is every chance that you'll get a place. I know the uncertainty is torture but try to focus on the fact that you still have another 3/4 months for something to happen. Good luck.

Thanks accidentally We are trying to stay positive but can't help but worry. I just can't see there being much more movement but there is still time so all is not lost yet.

Good luck to everyone waiting!

We are 6th on the waiting for our 1st choice and 5th on the waiting list for our 2nd choice. Ist choice has an intake of 45, 2nd choice 60. What are our chances?!

im resisting phoning the admissions team every week, to check where we are on the waiting list! Our allocated school is also having a meeting in a few weeks about the school and following that settling in sessions, which in an ideal world we wont need to go, as we will get our 1st or 2nd choice!

I just spoke to the teacher when I was dropping DD at nursery. She is currently at nursery in the combined unit at the school where she is 1st on list. The teacher said there is usually only movement when a family moves out of area. Some years this happens and some years it doesn't. She didn't know of anyone who had won on appeal due to ICS Sad. It's only a 30 intake so I shouldn't really be as surprised but feeling quite hopeless about the situation now.

Pretty - I think that's a brilliant movement in the space of a few weeks!! If it's moving that fast I couldn't help but be hopeful.

Still waiting too. I don't want to phone as DD was number 1 on the list and I don't want to hear she's dropped down. I can't stop looking at the phone willing it to ring. It's so hard! Good luck everyone Thanks

Number 18 for first choice school
Number 11 for second choice school
Number 13 for third choice school

Looks like I'm stuck in the crappy school I pulled ds1 out 3 year s ago.
I've been cheery with ds2 and talked up the school to him. I think it's time to slap myself and make the most of it.

DD us now number 10 on the waiting list, so not as much movement as we had hoped for but better than 16th Hmm

Hoping for some more movement between now and September.

I called LEA and they gave me our waiting list position, give them a call and see if they'll tell you before June. I couldn't wait that long! Good luck

Hi everyone how do you find out where you are on the list? Our LA reallocates on June 16th so I don't know if they will tell us anything before then. We got our third choice which is fine but in a bit of a dodgy area and 2.2 miles away

I was advised to call today to see where we are on the list and can't get through Angry I suppose everyone is doing the same as me Hmm

Has anyone had any good news? Fingers crossed for you all.

We're number 5 now. But my friend who is far behind on the list hasn't moved at all. So I'm not sure if that means two people in front of me have come off the list then two new people have joined the list inbetween me and my friend. I'm not sure how else I could move but she hasn't.

Found out today that DS' 3 friends at nursery who all play together everyday are going into the school attached (the one we're on the waiting list for) so that's a shame. But at least my friend's child has been allocated the same school as DS so he'll know one person.

DS is completely oblivious to it all which is the best way to be. We're going to look round his allocated school this week and he's excited to see it.

On the waiting list as well, my daughter is the only one out of her school nursery not to get a place. We are 0.8 miles away and 2nd on the list.
I am even dreaming about it now, so upset.

It's frustrating, my mobile rang yesterday with a local number I didn't recognise and I got all excited for a second. Turned out to be the garage trying to arrange an overpriced service Hmm

The waiting is the worst thing. We have been told that we are second on the waiting list for a school where both my older daughters go but where my youngest failed to get a place. Still not holding out much hope though as although it's a PAN of 60 , it's such a popular school. Will keep her at nursery and then home school until a place comes up!
