Does anyone else never buy school photos?

Even if they are good. When I told my friend they looked at me like this

They aren't even that expensive - £18 for two 10 x 7, two 5 x 7 and four 5 x 3.5 prints or £12 for one 10 x 7 print.

I'm just not a fan of photos in front of a white background. I prefer them to be in a real setting, whether that be the house, the garden, the park etc.

We only bought the occasional class one or ones which were really nice. DD always ended up with her head at a weird angle and they were very expensive. I prefer ones of them outside the front door on the first day of each new school year.

I do because I like to see how my doc have changed from year to year.

My Mum rarely bought them but that's because she's very tight.

No, never. I don't like them, won't display them. I don't feel guilty there are plenty of other things to buy/donate/ pay for.

No, I don't buy them.

DD1 is in secondary now and they don't do them anyway, but DD2's are something like £28 for the cheapest pack and they really aren't that good.

I used to buy them to give to grandma and grandad for Christmas but out school started using a different photographer a few years ago, the price shot up and the quality went down.

They seem to like weird and wonderful poses. This year DD was hanging upside down from a climbing frame - bright red in the face, school jumper all bunched up round her neck, hair all over the place. Thanks, but no.

I used to do some professional product photography, and still do a lot as a hobby so I usually manage to get a few decent pics of my own and give them as presents instead

I bought this years as the boy is in cub uniform rather than school, photos taken on 11th Nov, and his school encourage scouts and brownies to wear uniform that day and st Georges day.

I do and will get them all. Mainly because I have none of mine and my ds is very photogenic

Plus it is cheesy and I want to have one for each year to see how he's grown!

Never buy them. Dd has a left eye ptosis (which means that her eyelid droops - in her case her eye is virtually closed, despite two operations - she keeps growing!!! Ha ha) and at home we know exactly how to get her to open her eye for photos. At school they don't and her eye is almost completely shut so it's not nice for her to see it displayed. She's year one and starting to notice things like that...

I get the class photo which is a thumbnail of everyone plus the teacher, all in the one sheet. It tends to be the cheapest package. It's nice for them to look back at when they're older whereas their own photo in 5x7 format would make them cringe. I have to preorder and I never liked that aspect of it. They allow retakes but who wants to go to that much trouble..
(School allowed civvies until this year for photo day).

I've bought reception class photo and year 2 class photo (plus a personal pic out of 3 years). I've bought a junior.

I'd much prefer some senior school photography students experimented taking pictures of our kids having fun

I don't simply as I don't want a pack of pictures..I want one nice picture. I also did Max speilman this year and got a pack ( the irony I know) for £5.99 so have sent them to people I know don't particularity want a pic of my DS

I would buy them if they allowed the photo to be taken not in school uniform. I don't want a picture of him wearing what I consider to be not very nice clothes.

We didn't buy the photo either as it was £25 for an enprint size group photo taken by the class teacher using a basic camera. The private school fee was about £10K per year, and they have to rip us off with that. Why can't they just email us the photo so we can print and enlarge it ourselves.

I'd love to have school photos of my dc's but their school no longer take them because not enough parents were buying them. :-(

I had 4 years worth of nursery posed photos before even getting to school. First two years was easy decision as ds had refused to cooperate so was screaming or just post-howling with a stupid huge hat on so couldn't see him. Third time they actually were excellent photos so got a set, and next time were great photos of ds and dd - but the company cocked up and I didn't get them in time to go in Christmas cards. Got the nursery class graduation one as again it was a good photo of ds and friends.

Will see how the school ones are - ds's colours of uniform does suit him very well. :)

I always buy them... except last year when both my dds looked hideous. This year I told them that I would buy them some chocolate if they looked nice with brushed hair and jumpers on correctly. I have really nice pics as a result!

I always buy class photos too, and the school play dvds. I hate the expense but can't bring myself not to have them.

I love looking back at how much mine have grown and changed.....and how cute they were in reception! there is always the most recent one on the fireplace. and as others have said, they make fab xmas presents for the grandparents :)

I bought them all, 3 grown up DCs . I am so glad I did, came across them all recently and loved looking at them again. I have mine from school and DH's too.

Have only ever bought the ones of my three when they were in reception. Have them on display. Is great to remind myself (and them) how cute they used to be. They are now 18, 15 & 13

This time out we got the regular school photos, and some extra ones from another company with a massive great OWL on their shoulder. For £8. I ordered those ;-)

We will be getting our first school photos this year :D I would love to have them (because we have years of my dodgy school photos in my parents photo albums), but all my photo albums are now digital ones. If they sold me the digital image (wouldn't even have to be a high res file) for not very much, I'd love to get them. But paper copies? What would I do with them? They aren't photos I would put around the house.

I buy them and give them to grandparents and keep one for us. They always like them and it makes a good part of a present.
