Preteens

Daughters first period

DD started her periods today (nearly 12). It's surprised me by how heavy it is. No trickle just a sudden gush causing a big mess and upset for my DD first thing then lots of changes of underwear all day due to leaks. I bought her the Liliets teen range and just suggested she try the night time ones now. Also ordered some period pants. She had Calpol earlier but seems to be coping OK with hot water bottle for now but is railing against not wanting to grow up and that it would just go away! Any advice appreciated - I thought I was prepared!!

They're expensive but modibodi trump all other pants providers. My dd is 12.5 and she and all her friends swear by them. No leaks even on the heaviest days.

Why Calpol? And not normal?

Also, I found "teen" tampons stupid and my DD got rid of them after her first period, and straight onto normal tampons.

Also, as it's her first one, is she definitely inserting it correctly? I'd double up with a pad.

Hi, I got the similar.
My daughter is 11 and half and got her first period on 5th of December, fairly light bleed, for about 8-10 days on and off.
Now 19th of Dec she started bleed again, more heavier, crying now she wants all stop and wants to be little girl again! Before she would be saying since being 9 she wants to be Pre teen etc.
I wonder now given the period come like this and so heavy if it’s still ok?

@Lovesnowforever my daughter started 23 months ago and they're still totally irregular so absolutely don't worry so early on

My dd found the teen pads too short so moved quickly to the normal sanitary towels. She likes bodyform as they are mainly unscented.

Where do you get the teen period pants from? Thinking I may get some in for when my DD starts. Hope your DD is ok. Mine started in much the same manner.

Lillets used to do a wee starter pack in a zippy bag. Wonder if they still do

'Pearfacebanana' I got some via Amazon by Innersy. They've worked well. I got her age 10 after measuring her hips. Limited-time deal: INNERSY Teen Girls Knickers Menstrual Underwear Cotton Leak-proof Period Pants Pack of 3 amzn.eu/d/7amwp0L?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

@Pearfacebanana modibodi website they do a teen range called "red". My daughter is 12.5, super skinny and wears the red size 8-10 comfortably

I thought 1st periods were meant to be light but dd started recently, really heavy and for a week! Then a week later came back on for a week. Poor kid, only 12! Took me by surprise.

The main thing that I think you’re missing is the chocolate.

First periods definitely require chocolate

Yes - Boots the chemist had some (lots) two weeks ago which they were selling off for £2 per pack. Can't see them online and not at my local store, so perhaps only in certain stores?

@lashy they sell them in Tesco as I buggy one for my dd, but the teen range would only be suitable for light periods. My dd went straight into period pants and that's all she uses now, they're amazing.
