Your DDs 9-12 how regularly do they shower?

MurielHeslopp · 29/06/2013 18:18

My DD, currently 9 showers twice a week.

I know opinion on daily showering varies greatly but I don't want to end up being the mother of a teen who just wont get in the shower at all.

I wonder if getting her into the habit of a daily shower now will help it become the 'norm' by the time she reaches her teens and I will be less likely to face a battle...?

Thoughts, please. Smile

DD (10) showers every morning but (long) hair washing is less often

Report
GraduallyGoingInsane · 29/07/2013 10:07

Every night. Hair washing is less often, we tend to do it Sunday nights, Tuesday nights and Thursday nights unless she's got majorly grubby or has had swimming.

Older DDs shower at least once a day - a daily shower is non-negotiable in this house, and they have nice smellies to make it more enjoyable.

I'm lucky if 9yo DS baths more than once a week. I am happy with that.

Almost 12yo DD showers & shampoos 2-3x/wk (this is a very recent thing) and goes swimming where she also showers+shampoos 2-3x/wk. She is obsessive about it, and I think it's too much, bad for her skin. She's barely got any curves, not in puberty at all. She doesn't need to.

13yo DS manages 3x/wk. This is fairly recent, too, but he's starting to be more aware that girls might mind.

I am absolutely shattered. Today was the last day of term at the school dd and I go to. Luckily the class I work in has an air conditioner! Unfortunately I am going to teach a year six class next year. It was very rowdy today. All the kids did all day was watch movies, read and play board games. As soon as it was hometime the kids all rushed out the door except for dd and dd's friend, who had to collect their guitar from it's place in the classroom.

Both DC used to have a bath every night. They now have at least one shower a day, though DD sometimes has a bath. 12 and 14.

Every night - it's not optional in our house.

My DD is 13 and showers daily sometimes twice a day if she does after school sports.
At the ages of 9-10 she didn't willingly shower, it was only once she started sweating and noticing she would get smelly if she left it too long that she came round to our idea of thinking showers are good.

DS1 is 8 and loathes having a wash/shower/bath, he even goes to the bother of pretending he is having a shower but actually he is sitting on the toilet reading! He wets his hair with a wet comb. He is frankly infuriating.

We've had the heat only for the past week (so after I made this thread)

They've been having daily showers what with the heat and sun cream for the past week.

I was asking generally.

"My 9 yo showers twice a week"

Eww. That is a bit minging. It has been hot here the last few days and DD (12) has had a shower every evening before bed.

DC's are 6, 7 and 11 and shower or bath everyday. They have had showers or baths everyday since they were tiny. DH used to take them in with him when he showered/ bathed but now just supervises in the morning with the two littlies and the older one has just got on with it since he was about 8.

DD1 is 11 and showers every day, she'd probably shower twice if she could. I've had to hide my naice products from her as she will use them all up.

DD9 is a different matter. She simply can't be arsed and has to be ordered in. She has a shower/bath every other day or more if she 'smells like school' Grin

My 12 YO DD showers every morning. We live in a hot sweaty country so it makes sense.
Last year, in the UK, she would bathe every other day - and lay in the bath till it went cold reading a book.

My DD (9) showers three times a week - with her hair washed on Sundays.

However, she does a lot of gymnastics and if she trains for a long time / get sweaty, then she'll shower after a sweaty training session.

I've noticed that she has started to become smellier after training, but I think she's a long way off puberty yet.

DDs, 9 and just 12, are both soap dodgers, and probably shower 2-3 times a week, and only if I remind them. Both a way off puberty, though.

DS (13) on the other hand is Mr Clean, showers daily, and keeps Lynx in business.

Girls can be tempted with sparkly pretty bath/shower stuff

I'm sure I had a bath every evening as a tween/teen and used to read in there. But it's so long ago I may be misremembering. Funnily enough I'm lazier now about it than I was as a kid and if I've not been playing sport and my hair is passable will quite happily skip a shower. I'm gross I know. Just been camping for a weekend where no one showered even after hiking and sports and no one smelled -or I couldn't smell them over my own pong anyway-

At 9, my daughter was only having a bath or shower about twice a week as well. She never wanted to, but I insisted and said that was the minimum. Luckily she has never smelt and her hair (until recently) has always looked clean.

I know they walk about hygiene in lessons at school and recently she's been telling me her friends shower every day and I've said she can have one any time she wants (as I have always done), so more recently at 11 she's choosing to have one once every other day, although, the last week it's been every day - I think she's been getting hot and sticky at school. I think shes just realizing it's nice to feel fresh and clean - long may it last!

Ds is 12 and he showers every morning and washes his hair which gets greasy if he doesn't.

Atm because of Hay Fever he has a quick shower before bed too to get the pollen out of his hair.

I'm so glad there are other DC who average twice a week too. I always wonder if I'm a bit 'skanky' allowing them to go a few days without a shower. She's not remotely puberty-stage yet though.

There's generally a fair bit of huffing when she needs to have her shower so I dread to think what she'll be like in a few years. Unless of course, she turns the complete opposite direction!

Twice a week ish for dd aged 9.

And that's with A LOT of persuading!

If it was up to her she would never shower. Ever.
