I did a test yesterday and got no lines to begin with. I then checked it a couple of hours later and it was positive! Any ideas? I feel pregnant but did a clearblue today which took forever and then came up negative. Please help!!!!

early morning wee is best cos it is most concentrated as it will have been a long time since you did the last one. waiting say 6 hours in the daytime between wees would have the same effect.

clearblue aren't actually that sensitive. i've heard first response are 15miu/ml but don't know for definite.

Give yourself a couple of days, and test again. It is possible you have had a chemical pg,and that would explain + then -
I have read that if you have urine infection it can cause a false +.

I wouldnt waste a lot of money on tests i spent a small fortune on tests and clearblue where my biggest nightmare!! i got a - result with cbd and im currently 21weeks with the supposed - cbd test!!!!!! i got my + result with tescos own brand at something like £3.00 for 2 pack!

Went out and got another first response. Its negative though. Really disappointed. Perhaps the other one was faulty.

just make sure you really need a wee and do test mid-stream

I don't think I've ever done my first thing in the morning - go and do another now???

I have kept mine in the draw upstairs. Still positive. Am just scared to do another clearblue was negative although I did it at five in the evening the day after. Don't know how sensitive they are? Doctor said wrong time of day for wee!

Actually GP is lovely and we both support the same football team so get on really well. Can I ask how late your positive was?

ah right - am just amazed (and impressed) and GP would do that early on

fwiw, am 28 weeks pregnant now and got a late positive the first test I did, which I discarded anyway as it was out of date, but then got pos straight away on the next one I did the next day... good luck!

Because I took my test along and explained what had happened I suppose. Also very very complicated medical history....

sainsbury's and asda ones are 10miu/ml. do you know what the first response ones are?

Report
motomoto · 10/12/2008 15:46

why did he refer you to EPU?

Report
socialpariah · 10/12/2008 15:40

He refered but still haven't heard. Read on another thread that first response tests are the most sensitive. Just not sure why the delay. Still no af though and coil out first week of November.

what did epu say?

Report
socialpariah · 09/12/2008 14:41

Well trapsed to doctors with test and he refered me straight away to epu. He said other test could have been negative if it is early and I didn't use the first wee of the day Definately not an evaporation line even midwife had a look. Trying not to get hopes up though......

nappy addict is right, my first positive was with Sainsburys test

Try sainsbury's or asda's own brand. They are apparently one of the most sensitive tests out there.

Paraih,

I had this the week before last myself, took 4 tests to get a proper positive ( I ended up biting the bullet and bought the digital one with words)

Like you the 1st test on a Tuesday morning did not show postive till after the supposed time your not supposed to read it, and then the Predictor the next day came up negative, then we had another 2 days later which I could not see anything on but my SIL could see faint lines on, in the end we got the digital one on the Sunday,

But I definately Am! try not to get your hopes up and wait another day or so, but also I would thoroughly recommend getting a digital one or at least one which can test from 4 days before your due.

Good luck!! :-)

hmm, not sure I agree with you Iloveautumn - the lines can react with small amounts of HCG whilst they are still wet and the urine is moving through the test. The only time to worry is if you leave it until it dries out and you get an evaporation line - these will usually be yellow, and that's why the tests are blue or pink colours so it doesn't look the same!

A faint test can of course be a chemical pregnancy (where you have a fertilised egg but it doesn't implant either properly or at all, so you would get your period as normal). Although that can be really upsetting, it shows you and your partner are at least capable of creating a baby.

socialpariah - just wait a day or two and test again using first morning urine (don't drink too many fluids the night before either) and hopefully you'll get a stronger positive! If not take heart that the plumbing is working and you have a good chance of a BPF next month.

Good luck... let us know how you go on!

I've had this before when I pulled a test out of the bin and I definitely was not pregnant. A positive that appears after ten minutes is not a real positive - even if you do turn out to be pg, it's just a coincidence. If there was enough hcg to turn the test positive it would do so within the test period.

I have since vowed never to do it again as therein lies madness....

Hoping it was just too early and that you get a positive result.
