I saw a MW today and I asked her to check to see if DS2 has engaged (as I thought he might have done last week) and she said he is about 4/5 engaged, she could only feel a small amount of his head and he is firmly wedged in my pelvis. I know now that I will not carry this baby much longer..

Yep maybe he is just comfy down there

Nemo2007 · 12/09/2007 21:01

he could like it
My friends dd2 was like that, engaged/low from really early on, and she constantly thought she was in labour and going to drop, her dd2 was 3 days late where both her dd1 and ds had been born at 38wks

he has been head down since 24 weeks, and the scanner lady has to tilt me on the bed each time as she can't get the measurement because he is so low down. Could it just be that he like it down there??

SKG may not mean anything, DS was engaged from 32/33wks yet still decided to stay in until 42+1

As a mw myself if I write 4/5 on someones notes it means that 4/5 of the head is palpable ie not in the pelvis. The NICE guidelines recommend that the only form of palpation that is undertaken before 36 weeks of pregnancy is the measurement of the fundal height as anything else is notoriously inaccurate at this stage. Also it is entirely possible that the head could be popping in and out of the pelvis as ligaments are much more stretched in someone who has had babies before. Having said all of this obviously with your history of diabetes and previous prem births there is a fair chance that this one will also be early, but hopefully not for another four or five weeks.

Any more contraction type pain? Keeping fingers crossed that you hold on at last for couple more weeks if not longer xxx

DH is about all day as we are fulltime carers, because DS and DD1 have cerebral palsy.

Ok good you know 32 weeks is not that bad as far as maturity and the steroids will help with the lungs. Even a couple more weeks would be good so relax, please take it easy. Is dh around much? Friends, neighbours?

Awwww hun, I know where you are coming from. All of my 1st 4 were preemies, dd4 was the earliest at 33 weeks. I was contracting on and off with ds1 until I had the section at 37 weeks and in a permenant state of panic.

Have the consultants talked about possible steriod injections?

I think I might have just had a contraction but not sure.. i am so scared.. I saw how poorly dd1 was in SCBU and how tiny Dd2 was.. not sure if I can face it.. I am hoping that its was just irritably because the girls are playing up..

I put all newborn stuff in my bag, because I was so sure that I would get further this time, after discovery that I have a blood clotting disorder, and have been injecting Clexane daily. Put a pile of preterm stuff on the chest of drawer just in case, for Dh to bring in if needed. I just can't let go of my dream that I might get further, not yet anyway!

With my third they told me to expect her to arrive at 30 weeks and have my bags packed. I had to repack the baby clothes twice since she arrived on her due date and was full term....the doll sized clothes would have been no use to her.

Good luck

Our local hospital has a day assessment unit where you can just drop by with no appointment after 28 weeks. They will monitor and scan you if necessary. I went on a two day basis with my first and weekly with my second and not at all with my third since I was pre-eclamptic borderline for all three. They even did Dopplers.

It was at the day assessment unit that they discovered I was in labour with my second at 32 weeks and he was born footling breech 40 mins later.
