WHERE IS MY BABY?!?

crispysausagerolls · 22/06/2018 14:29

I’m only 37+2, but I have been having painful contractions on and off for a week now. I have lost my mucus plug. My baby is on the large side and I have moments every day where I am sure this is it, only for contractions to stop. My pelvis is agony and I am so uncomfortable and I just want my baby here now!!!!!!! Anyone else in a similar position? Starting to lose it a bit...

I am very interested to hear that even with subsequent pregnancies and knowing what to expect, the feeling is the same! I really hope baby comes for you this weekend aka before the heat wave!

I'm 36+4 and so ready for pregnancy to be over! I was absolutely convinced I was going into labour last night, Braxton Hicks all night that kept me awake which has never happened before.
I think my dates are more accurate anyway, in which case I'm 11 days further along so my midwife has told me to get my bag packed just in case!!

Most women I know have gone overdue with their first unfortunately! Baby decides when he or she is ready

That's the theory yes. Prostaglandins are used in induction and also found in sperm so people have theorised that sex could induce labour. BUT studies have found this not to be the case. Just like you can make heroin from an opium poppy. You could start a rumour that sniffing poppies gets you high. But it doesn't work like that. Also, see pineapple. They contain an enzyme linked to labour starting but to replicate it, you'd need to eat 8 pineapples, skin, core and leaves included in one sitting. It's not possible.

The old wives tales begin from a nugget of theory and extrapolation. In reality, they don't work. Which is why they're old wives tales and not science.

I heard having a massage can bring on labour, something to do with oxytocin?

Oral sex on him

I can’t even begin to imagine how I could bend that way 😂😂😂

The prostaglandins in sperm are supposed to be the thing that brings on labour.

LOL YES! That’s what I keep saying - horrible little poos! I found a recipe to make them into a paste but I’m so lazy now, i really should though. Will make myself this weekend. Agree with nipple stimulation - I tried squeezing them last week and a bit of milk came out so I’m not sure about further stimulation, as SK166 says, it all feels a bit milking a cow-ish.

Sorry my post got posted twice. I'm good at delivering babies but not much good at IT stuff. Re nipple stimulation - just play with them until you feel good! Research to say swallowing semen can bring on labour.

Lots of vaginal sex. Oral sex on him. Fresh pineapple (though you have to eat a lot of it. Nipple stimulation. Ask your midwife when you can have a series of membrane sweeps.

@crispysausagerolls I chop them up and have them with Greek yog for breakfast it's the only way I can do it... they look like little turds right?!! 😂
I think I'll try the nipple stimulation thing at some point, I just feel stupid as I'm not sure exactly what to do... try to mimic a baby sucking? I have no idea how lol

and I cleaned my living room floor (flagstones) on my hands and knees with a scourer yesterday and it did NOTHING.
Today I have been climbing in the hills with my toddler and still NOTHING!

Oral for him to bring on labour? Sounds like something a man made up!

39 weeks here and I do feel like im going to be pregnant forever
Had to be induced with my last and I was so hoping it would not be the case with this one.... but cannot see any end in sight

Try nipple stimulation/oral sex (woman gives man)/fresh pineapple (but you need to eat loads of it). Lots of vaginal sex. Ask your midwife when you can have a series of membrane sweeps.

There is no evidence that sex induces labour, only theory. Some studies even seemed to suggest it makes labour less likely...

Good luck. It really won't be long.

SK166 · 22/06/2018 19:38

The only other thing that apparently does have a scientific basis for potentially bringing on labour is breast/nipple stimulation. Midwives at my hospital were very keen to encourage collecting colostrum in advance of the birth but they were adamant you shouldn't even think about it before 37 weeks so we could all attempt milking ourselves I guess?!

Oh pregnancy. Such glamour.

I tried the dates! But they look so bloody unappetising that I couldn’t only manage a week 😭 sounds like you’ve really done everything though (except for the sex, and I don’t blame you, it’s not great at this time)

Am 39+3 with really bad hip pain on my right hand side for a few weeks now but other than that feeling ok.
Have tried:
Eating a whole pineapple three days in a row
Eating 6 dates a day for a few weeks (supposed to make labour easier and quicker I think but not induce anything)
Raspberry leaf capsules
Evening primrose capsules
Walking every day for at least half an hour
Sitting on the yoga ball/bouncing around

Haven't tried sex, DP is not keen and neither am I, I don't think this baby is ready yet so I'll need to just chill out I think Grin doesn't help that I'm the world's least patient person!

I love this!! I’ve been telling DH that his sperm has currency once again, after 8 months of telling him it’s meaningless to me now I’m pregnant 😂

I’ve told DH in no uncertain terms that as soon as he has a day off (he’s working doubles 6 days a week at the moment) then he is to finish what he started! I want this baby out ASAP!

The swimmers did nothing for us 😣 and it took me ages to persuade DP to help in the first place 😂

He didn't look overly chunky but he is rather long. I nearly passed out when she told me his weight...his head is 38cm tho!

9 lbs 6! I love a big baby! Well done 😊

Haha yes, the crab walking! I draw the line at cleaning the floor - surely being pregnant should give us some perks?

Dobby

Apparently sex is the only thing actually medically proven to help because of hormones in the sperm. Although I recently read that 3 times in a row is the magic number, and that scared me off slightly 😂
