Help! Think I'm in labour and on my own for now!

I'm 37+1 with DD2. With DD1 I had an EMCS before labour set in so have no idea what to expect.

For the last hour and a half I've been having what I think are contractions - basically a tightening down where my CS scar is, lasting 45sec every 5-7 min. When I last went to the bathroom there was some very watery blood.

Am currently home alone with DD1 with no family nearby - DH has gone to watch the Champions League with his friend and won't be home for another 4 hours at least.

I don't want to drag them back before I have to - surely the baby won't arrive in the next 4 hours?!

Also not sure if I should track down our babysitter or neighbor to be on call to stay the night if necessary. Then again I'd feel like a bit of an idiot if it's a false alarm and goes on for days.

Help! Is this really it!?

An update from OP here with a milk drunk baby on her lap Smile

To recap I went into hospital 10 days ago with contractions every 5 minutes only to be told the CTG wasn't showing up anything and cervix only finger wide. Continued to have contractions all through the night and the next day but no sign of baby.

Fast forward a week and I started to worry that the leaky bladder I'd had for 3 days was actually amniotic fluid Shock so decided to head back to the hospital.

Had another CTG which showed I was having contractions every 5 minutes which I couldn't even feel!!! Hmm. Examination showed waters in tact but leaking and cervix 4cm wide.

Was then told I had to be induced immediately as at risk of infection due to waters going. Was slightly freaked out as I'd previously been told I shouldn't be induced due to previous CS (EMCS after baby got distressed following failed induction). The consultant came in to talk me through the CS forms "just in case and we'll tear them up later".

Got to 6cm after 2 hours of bearable contractions then the consultant suggested she break my waters after which it really started to hurt! An hour later I started to go crazy (transition I now realise) and decided I wanted to push. Midwife came to check and I was at 10cm! 5 or 6 pushes later and out popped our perfect DD2 2 weeks early!

Turns out it was 3 hours before the full moon: MiL had been insisting for weeks that if she came early it would be then Grin

Mine stopped and started for days and then ramped up for the last three days. Didn't get any sleep and then had an EMCS - make sure you get as much sleep as you can. I was knackered by the time I actually couldn't sleep with very painful contractions and wished I'd got some more rest. DD is now 11 days old Smile

Ah love pre/early labour can be awful. The hard part for me was striking the balance between keeping active & resting to help things along. Hopefully little one won't keep you waiting too long.

Thanks for asking! Seems like the baby's playing games with me! Still having contractions but only every 20min or so now, so am just trying to keep busy and distracted.

Had a Dr's appointment scheduled anyway for yesterday - head is very low down, cervix 1cm long and finger wide and looking "favourable" whatever that means!

Have been given another appointment next week if she's still not here which makes me think I might be in for the long haul....

Just try and get as much rest as you can whenever you can. Definitely sounds like baby's on their way even if it's slowly! I was lucky with DD2 as my contractions started on the Friday night when DH was finished work for the weekend and my DDad came and took DD1 away then DM and DH took it in shifts to sit with me until I went into hospital on the Sunday where I stayed with them both and finally DD2 appeared just after midnight Monday am! I don't think I could've managed looking after DD1 through contractions.

I have the feeling this one is going to niggle for a few days yet! The contractions are only every 20min or so now. Managed to nap a bit as DD was fortunately at nursery. Am sure they'll ramp up in the night again so I can't sleep!

My dc2,3,4 and 5 was: Sunday to Friday, Monday to Sunday, Wednesday to Saturday and Friday to Tuesday. This was regular contractions I'd been niggling for weeks. The last two though was prem so I'm glad it lasted days to get extra time in there. I honestly found it better to deal with the pain when I did get past 4cm (minus dc2) than with with my ds1 who was a fast 4 hour from start to being in my arms.

Good luck 🍀

I was Friday to Monday with DD2. You manage as adrenaline kicks in so don't worry!

Can you nap today? I know it's hard with another little one but if someone can babysit for even an hour. Babies have a habit of coming att night just to add to the exhaustion.

My second niggled away for days. It was very 'is it? Isn't it?' Then when he did decide to arrive, the 'true' labour was only 45 mins! Shock
Keep us posted please, OP GrinBrewFlowers

Managed to catch some sleep through the contractions. Lost my plug in the night so hopefully things are moving in the right direction. I'm hoping this doesn't go on for days though - I'll be exhausted before the baby even gets here!

When this happened to me they gave me
Cocodamol at hospital to bring home and help me sleep through contractions. If they're mild try paracetamol or (double check with MW first) over the counter cocodamol.

Ladies! Thanks for all your messages and good luck wishes! Smile

False alarm unfortunately Shock Just back from hospital - likely in prelabour. Feel like a bit of an idiot but I'm definitely feeling contractions every 5min or so though they're bareable.

Maybe good to have a trial run though - couldn't track down babysitter and DH still on the way back from the match. Luckily I have great neighbors!

Any advice on how I can try and sleep with these stupid pains all the time!?
