Long term hospital stay for placenta issues.

I posted a couple of weeks ago after a big bleed landed me in hospital for five days. Further scans have shown full placenta previa and vasa previa. The latter can be very dangerous to the baby and it's important I don't go into labour. I live about 40 minutes from the hospital, this is my first baby after 5 years of trying and ivf. I'm 28 weeks and have been admitted as when all weighed up, if I had another big bleed or my waters went I could lose the baby before I got to hospital. Bloody terrifying and also hard to get my head around. I've been in for a week now in suspended fear, though I know they can act super fast. Potentially trying to get me to 37 weeks and nine more weeks here feels very long indeed. Anyone else admitted and killing time? Or done such a long stint? Or fancy just saying hello?!

Yay, many congrats and pleased you had a nice calm section. Dd had a hot cot as her sugars were low and 2 small formula top ups. We rode the potential jaundice bus for 8 weeks but she came through on her own in the end on that one.i remember them saying try and put her in the sunshine but we were Nov too and there wasn't any!!
Many congrats and hope you are off home soon xx

Many congratulations, Lemon. Your patience paid off. Cuddles to little lemon. I am so glad that you are both safe. Well done on the blood loss- a pint (rather than gallons) is very good going.

Regards to your DH from myself and my DH. You must be so looking forwards to being at home - the three of you.

Enjoy the glow. Thanks

Hello! Lack of signal on the ward has been a pain! Baby lemon arrived on Thursday safe and sound in a surprisingly lovely and calm c section. All went smoothly and I only lost 500ml blood which they were all surprised at. I can't express the huge sense of relief I had when he was laid on me in the theatre. He was 6lb 4 and I'm smitten Smile I looked at my vasa Previa placenta and felt so very relieved it was found as things would no doubt have had a very different outcome if I hadn't had my original bleed.

We are still here as mini lemon has had some issues stabilising his blood sugars and they are checking for jaundice today. Really hoping we will be out here by Monday finally back home a season later. Hugest thanks for all the well wishes. If anyone stumbled on this thread and would like to pm me about vasa previa or extended hospital stays id be happy to chat. Soon I will be free!

I hope you found something to eat before you had to be Nil By Mouth and the smells of breakfast on the ward haven't driven to distraction leading you the raid the kitchen like a woman possessed!!
Very un-mumsnetty hug to you xx

Hello everyone. I can't sleep so came on here and it's so nice to read everyone's messages Smile sorry for not doing more personalised replies, my brain is so mushy but I've appreciated all the advice, cheering on and similar stories.

Annoyingly I'm really hungry and nil by mouth at 6 but it didn't occur to me to save a snack, not sure if I should pester a midwife for a biscuit! I'm lying here feeling the baby move and it feels so surreal to think this is the last night I'll be pregnant. Though I know it is time to not be here anymore (!) it still feels strange that we're going to take him out of his nest in the morning. I feel ever so nervous but also calm at the same time. I'm all packed up and dh will be here first thing. Shame sleep hasn't been forthcoming but I hear that's a thing of the past anyway! Will update when I can.

Hey Lemon - nearly the day Grin

I'm not going to wish you good luck as I'm pretty sure luck doesn't come into it, but I truly hope all goes smoothly for you and your little one tomorrow and hope you have as positive an experience in theatre as I did Smile

Dear Lemon. One more night to go until the big day! I hope you, and your OH, manage to get some kip tonight. It's been a tough long ride for you both. Well done for sticking it out for so long in hospital. I'll be thinking if you tomorrow and wishing you the very best of luck for your trip to theatre. Your baby is very fortunate to have such a strong mother. ThanksBon courage. You are nearly there.

My surgery was fine - the worst of it was a sick feeling afterwards from the anaesthetic. Meds soon cleared that up!

My incision was pretty small, maybe as small premmie baby expected? and scar all very neat and no overhang etc. I agree with take all the meds they offer and don't wait till it hurts! I was back driving after 2 weeks and all good. Will your dh be allowed in theatre? I think some consultants will let them and others not for pp. Dh was allowed on the basis that if they said 'get out now' he had to scarper. Luckily that never happened.

On the upside of all this, you are unlikely to have much 'normal' post partum bleeding as they 'Clean you out', so to speak...... (sorry, tmi!)

Hello lemon, I've just found this thread. I can't believe you've been in so long! That must have been incredibly hard, but you are now so near the finishing line. I can't wait to read your birth announcement!

What craft projects have you been doing?
